Thoughts and expectations on Chuck's "Pygmy..."
"Snuff" was really that bad? [I have yet to read it, sorry]
I mean I initially thought the whole premise of the book to be kind of trite, but I figured, who else but Chuck could pull something like that off?
At least with “Pygmy” the little summary itself seems pretty fucking cool.
I don’t know, what were some off the things lacking in “Snuff?”
I think this book has one of the dumbest premises ever.
Don't know what to expect. But I'm HOPING for one armed mud soldiers.
I can has
I just received the not-for-sale bound galley today, along with a big velvety heartshaped box full of chocolate, because Chuck is awesome like that.
In the first chapter, there's a character mentioned called Agent Vigor.
That's all I'm saying for now.

Wow, that's sad. I've never e-bayed anything Chuck has personalized to me. And I've always groaned at his readings when I see someone with a shopping bag full of books they want his signature on. Most venues started limiting the number of things he'll sign for one person, and for a very good reason. Dude. He practically needed a wrist brace the last time I shook his hand. It makes me sick to think of people using his generosity as a merchandising opportunity. What's more, it probably isn't even all that lucrative. You could donate plasma every couple of weeks and make a fortune compared with e-baying a couple of signed books and random toys.

You think thats sad Marc, I spotted a first edition hardback of some writers book in the bargain bin. It was signed for his Mum and Dad, Thanks for supporting me all my life.
Heartless Bastards
chuck is the kind of writer who holds his balls while he writes. he has to; theyre so fucking big they have to be hoisted.
i probably wont finish this until sunday but in the first few chapters you see his personal approach to writing: his overall theme is apparent on the first page, and you quickly catch is main chorus, and you see his time-clock and head authority, and just now getting into the heart authority. and clearly, the burnt tongue haha
pygmy goes by every single one of chuck's workshop techniques. it's uncanny.
i thought rant was very original, and badass. i cant wait to read how this one compares. and then i'll tell yaw in may

oh, there's no way i would ever sell anything given to me by an author. i dont particularly care about autographs. the read is the most important part of a book, is the only part to me. the way it reads, how it feels in my hands. a signature doesnt make a difference in that. odd, though, that now i have three books signed by the man, and when i'm old and decrepit i'll still have at least three books signed by the man. odd because i've not yet met him. i live in little rock. not much comes here and every bookstore in little rock is gone save for one barnes and noble store and one in the heights area called the knole or something along those lines--rich place, filled with rich and fancy people. but very little happens around these parts when it comes to books and events. i can see how chuck wouldnt do a reading here. this is a very red state, afterall. just reading the dust jackets of chuck's last two would force a woman to hold her children closer. and then she may go home and come back later with a picket sign and a thermos of coffee, calling on her cellphone all day long for everyone she can reach, church office and friends. haha. but jen and i will probably be moving in a few years anyway. we're thinking new orleans or oregon. so i'll get to meet him, sooner or later. and have him sign a picture "to kabol" or something. but a book, that's for reading, not making valuable and selling. that's cottonballs.

oh.. forgot to add that i do not think it is spike. btw.
i'm sure if the book was signed that it would be mentioned in the item description
and chuck always personalizes the books he signs for shipout.
guess i just forgot to mention that tittle, maybe figuring it selfexplanatory

Anyone read or heard anything about this yet?
LiFe:
Its not about the things you buy or the money you earn.
Its the experiences you have and the knowledge you learn.
The Simpsons episode with it was pretty good.
I agree. Great episode.
And, from what i've heard, which is only one review of the ARC, it's terrible. Well, not terrible, but there's nothing to it. More fluff and stuff from chuck-a-luck.
I am extremely optimistic about this book and I like the idea behind the premise. I can realistically see Chuck stabbing his pen through the heart of the American culture and not holding back on the state of it's citizens. I envision descriptions of strip malls and slothful lazy people being raked over the coals by a vengeful and vindictive 14 year old "foreign exchange student." I do not see him holding back one bit.
I thoroughly enjoyed Rant and was not as disappointed with Snuff as most people were. I think that it is incredibly difficult to continue to "shock" people with utterly original ideas but I do believe that Chuck succeeds in this respect.
Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.
Haunted was dissapointing to me. As was Diary.
But Lullaby and Rant were really great. They are both part of my top 3 now with Fight Club.
I didn't get to read Snuff yet. But I'm sure Pygmy is gonna be good from what I've read so far about the upcomming book.
Wouldn't it be nice?
I'm looking forward to it. The style reminds me of A Clock Word Orange.
It has to be better than Snuff.

I see myself and I look really scattered
But I lived my broken dreams"

Got my copy today! Weeeeeee! So excited
Expectations are high as always with Chuck. The premise seems highly interesting, so I think it'll be a blast. I love the way I get a new Palahniuk on my hands in the brink of every summer. Keep on the writing pace C! Cheers!
I've read through the first two chapters of the book and it's apparent what he is trying to get across with his portray of American life, but I think that the style in which he wrote it (through the voice of the foreign exchange student) might put people off. It doesn't flow because you have to stop and think what this little terrorist is saying, what he is referring to. The style might be a hinderance in someone trying to finish the book.
OK, I have had Pygmy for wellover a year, and still have not gotten past 'Dispatch Third.' I'm pretty good at reading most books in a day or two; But when I get the urge to read Pygmy I can only read a few pages before my brain goes numb and I lay it down for a month. Ive lived in Japan for 6 years and you get used to "Engrish" whilst translating and retranslating and back translating, till you finally just get a head ache. thats the way I feel about Pygmy, I just feel stupified by the Engrish. While what I have read is very entertaining, I think that I have delt with too much Engrish in real life that i can not enjoy this book from Beloved Chuck. Its like being forced to listen to a lecture from someone who only speaks Ebonics.
"You nin-com-fuckin-poop!" That's gold, i tell you! GOLD!

Snuff lowered the bar for me, so I'm expecting there's nowhere to go but up.
