Rant's New Book in 2009, please help
I am so confused.
Alright, if this has been brought up recently or even before, then forgive and please direct me to the link, but if not, here goes:
I remember reading last summer that Chuck plans to make Rant into a trilogy and that he would publish the second book in 2009 and the last one in 2011, i.e. the two-year wait between each book like he originally said he wanted.
I know this is not any new news for many of you who are fellow die hard Chuck fans, but what is confusing to me is that his new book, which comes out in 2009, is called "Pygmy" and it doesn't sound anything like the second book in the Rant trilogy.
I sense this because I remember Chuck saying that the second book in the trilogy i.e. the Rant sequal would deal with the "historians" and would reveal more of the mysteries surrounding them. Pygmy doesn't sound anything like that.
Now perhaps Chuck changed his mind and dropped the trilogy or is waiting another year or two for the next book, but the way I see it is that he said last year he was working on the second Rant book and yet he has already finished Pygmy. Chuck is talented as hell, but I doubt he would write two books from start to finish in less than one year AND not mention both of them, as he has only talked about Pygmy so far.
To make a long post short:
I love Rant and while Pygmy sounds like another Chuck winner, I really want to read more about the mysterious and profoundly confusing plotlines and secrets of the Rant trilogy, which I can't do if he has scrapped the book about the historians or is delaying it another year or two.
Can anyone help me make sense of this, anyone who remembers what he said last year or has any insight into the newest development of the Rant trilogy?
I'm sure the answer(s) are obvious and are old news that I prolly missed hearing months back, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
PS: I feel like such a whore making my first impression on this kickass forum with a post that begs other, more knowledgable people for answers...but alas, I am a man who knows my limitations...and I loved Rant, easily his best among many great works in my opinion, so yeah, I'll whore myself for any new Rant trilogy news.

He's probably doing whatever he wants. If I was him I wouldn't commit to dates and tell myself, "My next work will be this", as you can't just force a book out. I say wait and see what haps.
Unfortunately, because he is under contract, Doubleday forces the dates on him. I'd say any dates he gave above (via CP17's post) are likely accurate.
Regarding your confusions, CP17, I wouldn't put it past Chuck to have written 2 books in less than a year without divulging the info. It's a lot, yes, but when you get to Chuck's level you live for writing.
I read somewhere (possibly on this very site) that Pygmy is a seperate book from the Rant trilogy. More Chuck is just fine by me.
Thirstygerbil, you may be right about the two books in less than a year thing and I hope you are, because that's means the second book in the Rant trilogy is on its way, but I doubt it because I just realized that last year Chuck was also finishing the last half if not more of Snuff, meaning in order for him to have written the second Rant book last year, that would actually mean he has written two and a half books (1-the second Rant book and 2-Pygmy, which he has stated he's already finished the first few drafts of and 3-the last half if not more of Snuff) in the last year, which I guess he could do, but isn't likely. Only S. King who cranks out a book every month can find the time to put that much pen to paper.
Again, I hope you're right because while I think Pygmy could be a highly explosive book (since it's based on terrorism, no pun intended) I would rather FIRST read about the "historians" as no previous Chuck book has come even remotely close to provoking so much conversation, debate and unanswered qustions as Rant has done.
And I agree that Pygmy is most likely not the second Rant book, which is why I'm so confused as to what happened to the book about the historians. Who knows, maybe Pygmy is the next Rant book even though it sounds NOTHING like it, after all, that would make it MORE in line with being the sequel to Rant than anything else, since it wouldn't make any sense and would only draw more questions, ha, ha.
Thanks for the help. If anyone else knows anything more or anything new about what's up with the second Rant book, then lay it on me. I'm certain that from all the best Chuck fans, which are all concentrated here on this forum, that at least one of them has the answers I seek.
