Next book to read
I've read Fight Club six times, working on my seventh and I've read invisible monsters too. I'm looking for another one of Chuck's books to read and i'm not sure which one i should read next. Any suggestions?
I didnt get Fight Club until I read it at least 20 times.
I would definatly read Lullaby! Or Surviver. They are both really really good. Surviver falls into being similer to FC and IM because it's something that could actually happen, unlikly, but possible. Lullaby is awesome, but something you would never see in real life. Flip a coin for the two.

Survivor. That's the best of his novels in my opinion. I've at least read him through, so it's not a total bullshit opinion, but it is still an opinion.
I liked Lullaby quite a bit, Choke is very good. Diary is less solid, but entertaining. I'm not so nuts about Haunted, but the short stories in it are pretty good stuff. I'd skip the 'novel' and 'poetry' content on that one, really.
Just finished Rant and it had its moments but I think Chuck is trying to hard to be a stylist and his storytelling his hurting for it. Kind of felt like a Fight Club remix at times, too.
My advice: go immediately to Survivor. Then Choke and Lullaby, then read the rest if you still can't get enough Chuck.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
For sure Survivor, Choke or Lullaby.

You need to read Butcher Boy if you live in Ireland. That's where I read it. Great Irish book...

Ive read it but usually I stay away from Irish books, I live here thats enough without reading about it aswell.
Guys, what kind of shampoo should I use?
I've been using the yellow herbal essences but there's a coconut and hibiscus one in the bathroom that smells nice.
Instead of overdosing on Chuck you should check out Will Christopher Baer, Monica Drake or Craig Clevenger and then read some more Chuck.
I cannot stand reading a book more than twice, it has to pass a long time, unless its philosophy or strategy, i think this is why i still dont get fight club, i recomend you to read it once more and once youre done, do it again.

Make the change. I would like to smell coconuts in your hair.

I like to read about places I will probably never get to visit. I dont understand how thats closeminded. I live in Ireland, I studied our History and Heritage, I speak the language if I want a bit of escapism then so what.
BTW Are you following me? was that you in the bushes?

It's close-minded because it's not even about Ireland, persay. It's about a character that just so happens to be Irish. I thought you might be able to relate, but obviously you think I'm a big meanie therefore you will never listen to any recommendation I may make because you are close-minded at least towards me. Anyway, I was just recommending a book to you as the thread is about that and I felt like recommending a book at the time. Don't worry. I'll never try to make you smarter ever again...

I killed some time at Borders last night before I went to the movies. I was amazed at all of the crappy books that exist... walking in and walking around that place made me want to write for money again because apparently anyone can do it...
They had Salmon Rushdie quotes all over the Borders...
“A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.”
Salman Rushdie quote

Every time I go in a borders, I try to find the literature for sexual compulsives so I can pick up a chick like Victor does in Choke.
I can never find that section, and I get the weirdest reactions from the Bordrs staff when I start asking about it...

Brock, if you read my earlier post you could see that I READ THE DAMN BOOK you recomended. Im always open to book recomendations. However it is getting to a stage where I cant say anything without being told of my inferior intelligence so if you dont mind I will just ignore you from now on.

Would it matter if I did mind? So why even ask? And I think it's awful that anyone would tell you that you have an inferior intellect. I mean it. I certainly would never say such a thing to anyone, let alone you. I'm glad you read the book. Great book it is... here is another great damn book...

Survivor and Rant get my vote.
Rant is - seemingly - slightly underrated on here. I'd say it's one of the best to advise to people!
Invisible Monsters or Choke
I did not enjoy rant as much (I think its great until the middle of the book)
or.
Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh (to take a Chuck break I find this an excellent option) But if you have read fight club so many times I guess you don´t want a Chuck break...
Instead of overdosing on Chuck you should check out Will Christopher Baer, Monica Drake or Craig Clevenger and then read some more Chuck.
right on - but if you must, I say Choke or Survivor

I can pick you up a copy tomorrow and have it in the post Saturday. Let me know by PM before.... well tomorrow?
i plan at some point to go back over lullaby... it struck me one day that i may have not quite given it my full attention because i can't remember most of it already.

Yeah, I tried to find the local Sexaholics Anonymous one time. They either don't exist or are well camouflaged against poseurs, dilettantes and the just plain horny.

Trainspotting's a hard read. It has its moments, but if you want that much effort, read As I Lay Dying.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
you could do like in jay and silent bob strike back and haunt the local abortion clinic for loose women.
why hasn't anyone mentioned haunted that book will blow you away and change the way you think about things forever
convicted child arsonist
why hasn't anyone mentioned haunted that book will blow you away and change the way you think about things forever
Haunted is nice, but its no "Survivor" now there is Palahniuk a his best!
I got Invisible monster from a friend about a week ago, its going to be a while before i start reading fiction again, but when i do finish it, i would have finish Palahniuk’s fiction department.
Why doesn’t anyone ever talk about "stranger than fiction" and "refugees" (or something like that?) did they suck that bad? worse than diary?
why hasn't anyone mentioned haunted that book will blow you away and change the way you think about things forever
First, because it's boring to recommend Chuck's books here. Anyone who's here has probably read him.
Plus, Haunted is not one of his stronger efforts. Along with Invisible Monsters and Rant, it's not that it doesn't have its strong points, but the overall effort was a total failure.

The guy did ask specifically for a next Chuck book to read though.
I think it's funny that there's so many threads like this when a lot of the themes in Chuck's books have to do with thinking for yourself.

And the funny thing is that most of the books are explained on this site..so you can sort out wich one is best for your tastes, just looking in those sections.
But if he read Fight club 7 times he will be expecting something like that... I think He should read "Choke" (fight club for sex addicts)
AND.. Diary was great! I totally love that book. Its one of my faves. I don´t know why lots of people hates it (Stranger than fiction is a little boring sometimes to my tastes)
Hey chix..is "As I lay dying" written in scottish too? I love the pace on traisnpotting and I was looking for soemthin similar

Do you mean is it translated in Scottish or written in Scottish like Trainspotting?
because it's written more in a Deep South Hillbilly kind of accent.

written in scottish like trainspotting (Now I remember that I got "filth" to read)
I loved Haunted. Read that one.
Don't listen to Huxtable, even if he has a cool Dr. Strangelove avatar. That book should ahve been edited to 1/4 it's size, mostly by eliminating the bad poetry and worse overall novel and just leaving the stories.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
See, I think it should have been about 100 more pages actually to really fill out that wraparound story. It just didn't feel like he was finished writing it.
I have enjoyed haunted a lot. It´s a funny book.

I just reckon you should read Fight Club again.
