I just bought my third hardcover version of Lullaby and when I removed the dustcover, I was quite astounded...
The first two I bought had plastic-like boards with the picture of the house that has "Sticks and Stones May Break Your Bones, but Words Will Never Hurt You" coming out of the smokestack and the green spine with black lettering. But this new one I just bought has completely typical black boards and on the spine the lettering is gold and shiny and it has the complete printer's key and it's stated First Edition, as are my other two. So what is up with the one that has the black boards and shiny gold lettering? Is it some kind of other edition or what? Sorry if that was a bit confusing, but I just want to get to the bottom of this.

I can see, being a collector,  buying that third book you decribed because it was different. But why buy the first two if they were the same?

I didn't know it was going to be different, I was expecting it to be just like the first two, but it wasn't and I can't find any info on the third one.

As for collecting, it's just fun for me having all the different versions of books. For example I have four different versions of Rant. I have the paperback, the Advance Reading Copy, the Hardcover and the Book Club Edition. It's the same way some people are with music.

About the different versions, that's kinda weird. Not sure what that's about. Even though I'm not much of a book collector (I'm usually hesistant about picking up an early hardcover instead of just waiting for the paperback), the way you described it, it sounds like quite a find.

Just curious: Was this at some local place in your area, or one of the larger chain stores?

I got no idea either about the different version but maybe if one was physically published in one area and the other published in another that might explain the difference. If the final appearance was changed last minute and one of em didn't get the memo. I don't even know if publishers do that in their printings but it's fun to come up with the conspiracy theory.

Brit version? Is everything spelled "colour"?

No, it's all in American type English and it says "Printed In the Unites States of America." It's just an anomaly I suppose.
