A student film about a Palahniuk short story
Hey everyone,
I'm new here and I have a question I wanted to ask and I found nowhere to ask it but here.
I'm a film student on my second year, and for the end-of-2nd-year movie I'm planning to adapt a short story from Haunted - "Swan Song".
It's going to be a ~10 minute short, obviously made with zero budget, not as a commercial movie (doh), pretty much an inside thing. Except, maybe, I'll send it to a few festivals (if it turns out well, off course).
The question is, will there be a author rights violation? Is there a way I could ask Chuck personally for a permission, now that his fan mail is currently closed?
Many thank to who ever helps me with that one.
Actually, for options, you would contact his agent, not publicist.
However, Haunted has already been optioned. If you made a film and sent it to festivals, you would be in violation of copyright law. Chuck can't give you permission as he's already given it to someone else basically.

I believe you need to get in contact with his publicist at Doubleday.
