Possible Choke fan film...
Well. Since we hav'nt seen TOO much production news on the film CHOKE, I may decide to write a screenplay for the film adaption of the book to be filmed by my indie. low budget film company. We're not inexperienced as we are currently working on a Ghostbusters fan film. (www.freewebs.com/gbh3llbent) I'll keep the masses updated here, but this will only be if we dont see any major progress soon.

Yes, I consider Ghostbusters fan films only existing on spammy cheapo host sites as credentials, too.
PS. Your doctor Marshall's like twelve. Is that legal?
It's a cheapo site because all of our money went into the film...And our Dr. Marshall is 19.
Well, I've finished the fan trailer script and e should begin filming as soon as my camera returns from Canada. Look for updates VERY soon.

You can't get 19 year old doctors!! Unless they were uber smart and went to University when they were 12 or something.

Why I Did Not Say This A Month Ago, When The (Boring, etc) Events Of This Thread Initally Took Place:
a) Dr. Marshall is not, in fact, a doctor.
The Wonder of Makeup can actually transform a nineteen year old into one much more elderly.
c) Saint Me is very, uh, "fortified against any denial". It's no use trying to taunt him. Sorry.
Things are developing...slowly...but surely...however I'm aving a delema as far as casting goes for Denny, and this is where you come in.
Vote between this man:

and the one previously declaired Denny. Here is a more up to date picture of the fellow I just posted on set of another film in development:

We are getting our camera back on Monday and will be shooting the fan trailer during our down time of the Ghostbusters film. Thank you.
Well, the descision has been made between the two Denny's and the newer one won. ONe because I think he fits my vision better, two because he's a BIG Chuck fan and has actually read the book. He's actually a meber here somewhere, just not a very active one. We have finally acquired our new camera nad production should be starting next week hopefully wrapping by the next. Remember, again, this is for the fan trailer...not the feature length film...not yet anyway.
Ok...not so good news...unforunantly we have lost one of our cast members, the person playing Denny has left us well...in short I called his step sister a "Stupid little cunt who has no REAL friends," and then I beat her boyfriends ass. SOOOO...he was a little heated and our friendship has been broken off. We are now in the process of recasting Denny...which MAY already be done...it's in the works. I do plan on working on a site for the film durring the next couple of weeks. Dont expect anything fancy as it will be a freewebs site redirected by cjb, but it will serve it's purpose.
OoooooooKAY!!!...::sigh:: So we have now begun production on the screeplay adaption of the book. I want to get this trailer out of they way to how you guess a little peek, but it looks like that may not happen until I get a new camera which will more than likley be this December. It's not a bad thing either, as it gives me more time to think about the way I want to do this. Like Fight Cub t will have a lot of Voicce Over work, but that can't really be helped. A lot of the internal thoughts of the book are being turned into dialouge so's to eliminate some of it. I promise you, although the film will be VERY CLOSE to the book, t will not be so exact. Finally, we have also cast Denny PERMENANTLY...this is who is sticking to the role:

If I can, in the next week or so I will try and get some posters or costume tests online.
Heheh. I love this thread.
Hopefully it'll turn out just as tragic as that Survivor short film.

Are you actually serious about filmmaking?
Because the stuff you put on Youtube and looking at a bunch of kids playing Ghostbusters pretending that a feature will be made is pretty ridiculous.
If you are, why not try to make something original and start small and short untill you have some movie making skills.
It seems like you put much more effort into these projects (ie: full costumes and web design for Ghostbusters) than they're worth.
I'm saying this because you should be learning and developing into a competent filmmaker before even thinking about tackling a feature film. If you have a bunch of 19 year olds in your casting pool, having them in roles meant for characters in and around their 30s who are in complex relationships will look amazingly dumb.
If you wanna make something now then make it to your abilities and be serious about it. Kevin Smith dropped out of film school to make Clerks, a perfect first movie for someone that young.
He could cast people his friends because the movie revolved around people his age, and the scope was small because that’s what he could achieve convincingly with the level of talent and funds he had at that time.
His film worked, and if he had decided to make the sequel to Platoon with his friends instead, he would have a useless film on his hands and would be nowhere.
That’s if you're really serious.
If not, I can at least laugh at what you end up with because I love bad movies

That's incredibly insulting...aparently you hav'nt been to our site lately. We're all but inexpereinced. If it's one thing I hate, it's being refered to as a bunch of kids playing in their back yards. Most of these ussumptions come from our camera quality which is currenlty being updated to HD. We are incredibly serious about our Ghostbusters film, so much to the point that we have larger actors signed on. i.e Mark Joy, President of Mooby's in the Kevin Smith film Dogma. My film parter and I are film students, any thing seen on youtube should be regarded as White Tiger Films history, a chronicoling of our rise. What you see from us in the NEAR future will be unlike anything seen on youtube. Visit our site now for a link to our newest film which has a very Palahniuk-ish feel...all a last minute descision because we lost all of our audio in the recording process, check it out on our front page: http://www.whitetigerfilmz.cjb.net This isn't even our best...this was filmed on our older cam corders..hence the loss of our audio.
EDIT: Link back up. Scroll down just a bit and it will be the http://david...ect.
...and...research done, the main cast is only around around 23...thats a 4 year difference...a 4 year difference...you know how often thats concieved in film...why is it that teenagers never play teens in movies it's always 20 something year olds...but it's ok...because it's only a few years difference.
Are you going to make a Ghost Busters versus Godzilla? You know because that would be cool because they would realize that Godzilla isn't a ghost at all and Spangler would have to go all science tecno babble like and Egon would just be dead because Harold Ramis isn't going to touch you guys with anything to part in this film but You the son of Egon can diddle some 19 year old girl and develop herpies and settle with crossing the streams against Godzilla will be the only possible way to defeat him since you're far below budget to make Mecha Godzilla to fight Godzilla and you CGI effects only apply to ghostbuster laser beam doohickery.
Sorry sir, our plot is a bit more advanced than that...as is our special FX and budget. Now....a larger named actor has just beed added to our cast as the Govenor of Dunsboro, as well as the Dunsboro location secured. Things are going very well for this film. This same actor will be appearing in the Ghostbusters film. As far as the cast goes, it will not be limited to younger actors...there will be a large age range of actors in this film.
Who is this mysterious Actor?
Do I know him?
Is it my neighbor!!?!
Man on Street: Who was that masked man?
Spangler: No mask man sir, he's a ghostbuster.
Man on Street: Fuckah you niggah.
Spangler: Sir, that is a racist remark and quite frankly the wrong racial epitaph you're looking for, I'd gladly get enraged over Honkey or Cracker or Cream Fat Dough Man.
Man on Street: This movie sucks.
Spangler: Says the man without the tan jumpsuit.
Asian Man on Street: GODZILLA!!!
Are you going with Chokebusters or Ghostchokers for the title? I'm personally conflicted as to which one I like more.

Godzilla wants nothing to do with either title. He seems taken over the name of Godzillabuster though. But that is because he is a self absorb egomaniac.
Meh...what ever. For anyone still serious who knows anything about cameras, we will be using a Panasonic Leica Dicomar 3CCD Mega O.I.S. PV-GS500....unlike any of the quality seen on Youtube. If you would like to discuss the Ghostbusters film, titled GHOSTBUSTERS: HELLBENT, please email me so's not to crowd this topic and lead to misconceptions about the film. As far as the actor, I'd rather not release his name at this particular time do to the way you have all responded to the film thus far. The last thing I want is for the particular actor to be bombarded with ridiculous questions regarding the film. Once the seriousness of this topic raises, I may release a name...until then you'll have to wait for the site launch or a trailer.
You got Tom Hanks!!!
How did you pull that off?
I would'nt let Tom Hanks near this film if I could afford him, sir. Do to our recent luck, we have decided to throw out the fan trailer idea and go right into pre-production for the feature length film.
i doesn't matter how fantastic a movie you do or don't make anymore, you've talked it up way more than you should've
next time just mention what you're doing then keep it under wraps till you're done and let all the talking come afterwards
You obviously haven't seen him in You Got Mail.

I have a habit of doing that. All I can say is wait and see. Honestly I think Choke is better off in independent hands than with Hollywood anyway considering some of the stuff they've crapped out latley....lets just wait and see. If this film crashes and burns...oh well...it was fun.
Well...things on this project are going better than planned. We have recasted Dr. Page Marshall to the actor you will see below. The script is going very well as far as adapting and we've sgned on a few more actors as well as secured a location for Colonial Dunsburo.
NEW Page Marshall. (her hair isn't as long as the book would have it, but it's an adaption)

will there be any nudity?
She's hot.
In other news, not to be a downer, but I have to agree with the other quotes here. Let's look at this from a business standpoint. There is absolutely nothing you can do with a copyrighted, trademarked entity such as Choke or Ghostbusters. You can't sell the film. Studios can't buy the film. You legally cannot sell tickets to the film. Studios won't look at a feature for demo purposes. You're wasting your time. I don't say this to be harsh. You want to exhibit how good you can be with effects? Make a Ghostbusters-style tribute kinda film that's 10 minutes tops. Load it with incredible effects (you know, with the money and time you save by not filming the other 80 to 120 minutes of your script). You want to demo how good your editing skills are? Or cinematography? Make a SHORT version of Choke - one scene. Again, nothing you can do with it but show it to friends in the industry in the hopes they'll throw you a bone. I'm in L.A. Many other Culties are. Listen to us: you're driving down the wrong road here. You're actually making your life harder.
The best thing to do? Make some contacts at your local college. Hook up with a good writer who's burning to see his 10-minute or 30-minute piece on film. Shoot the Hell out of it. Submit it to festivals. Get rejected. Repeat ad nauseum or until someone gives you a prize or a deal.
Chuck sold the right to Choke already. Ghostbusters is still locked up by Columbia/Paramount, and they're licensing it out now for videogames. In other words, no sell for you. Need more proof? Read the story of the guy who created the continuing adventures of the original Enterprise: http://www.newvoyages.com/
The guy's blown thousands and thousands of dollars on a project that barely got him a website notice. Paramount only allows him to keep the stuff up because he won't charge for it (and because Trek fandom is on life support and every little bit helps).
USE YOUR ENERGY IN WAYS THAT WILL HELP YOU. If you're serious about film, you don't have much time to break in (sooner or later bills catch up and you'll need the dreaded day-job. So while you're young and relatively debt- and responsibility-free, make something magical. Something original. Something you.
Thus endeth the sermon.
EDIT: Okay, okay... you're a very young filmmaker starting out. So I don't want to seem too harsh. But my comments stand. The sooner you start on this, the better off you'll be. You get a great original idea (see th eerarlier Clerks comment) and you're golden. focus on telling the story that only you can tell, not your versions of someone else's tale. There's plenty of room for that when you become a real official Hollywood hack director. Use your freedom while you can! I know you'd rather make cool films to impress your friends and chicks and chick's friends. The sooner you get over that, the better off you'll be. Don't take the easy road! Why am I making this post so long? Do whatcha want, but don't say I didn't warn you...
I appreciate your comments, but this isn't for money. We dont ant to sell either film in any way. The GHOSTBUSTERS film is a fan film and something we really want to do. There are several fan films on the net including GHOSTBUSTERS that are just fun to do as flm makers. Choke will be our adaption apart from what's going to be done by any proffesionals We're film makers just looking to make movies. It's what we love to do. We have everal orginal projects planned and being written as well as a few already done. We're current;y submitting a film to two differetn contests. One being a reality TV show for Fox another for Quentin Tarentino and Robert Rodriguez. For the love of film making...not money. When you love something enough it is never a waste of time. Nudity...I can say that there will be some form of nudity in the film as all of our actors are over the age of 18 and it's perfectly legal. Expect an R rating, as it's the only way to do Choke right. However, the film will not strive on this. There's no reason why there HAS to be excessive nudity. For example, I felt the sex scenes in Fight Club were done very tastefully.
Pretty much what I said. But if you love filmmaking, learn to colalborate with real writers with fresh ideas. There's nothing better than developing an original idea. As for loving filmmaking, it's even better to love it and make a living at it, which is easier to achieve when you're breaking new ground.
Also,
Yay nudity! If you have to settle for making a short, start with the nudie scene. Learning to talk women into being nakedd on camera is another lucrative, though non-essential, LA skill... I've heard.
Filmmaking is probably one of the most cost and labor-intensive art forms out there. Why not throw together a 15-page script? It's not like it's that hard. Get a bunch of napkins and some sharpie markers and a large cheese pizza and just write something. As long as it has a beginning, a middle, and an ending, a point and possibly some kind of plot, you're good. If you need any short film inspiration there's about 50 every day on IFC or you could hunt some down on the interweb.
I fucking hate fanfiction/fanfilm/fans.

Note: Pointy ears can turn an emo kid into a Romulan.
That's a Vulcan.
This guy seems hell-bent on making his Choke film and I for one am dying to see how this pans out.
I wonder if he's though of a Legomation version of Choke?

"I dunno. A baby lives for a long time, dude."
And I want to see any promotional artwork asap.
Do you guys have the copyright stuff on the novel or are you planning to get it ?
Yeah, the girl is hot, but I've always imagined the doctor in Choke a little bit older, that mature sexyness, know what I mean ?
claudiu d.moga
She doesn't look like she can act.
Why do you keep coming back with this stuff?
Nobody here really finds any real interest in it other than to mock you over your obsession with ghostbuster and palahniuk books.
You guys! Just let it happen.
He won't listen. He never does.
It is going to happen with or without my blessings!!
Thank God. If it were up to you people we'd never have any entertainment around here!
I am entertainment!
Isn't Chi Chi spanish for boobies?
You're alright, but you're no fan film. Certainly no fan film involving nude scenes.
She looks to have more self respect than to pose naked for those buttheads.
It will just have elephant nude scenes in it. And believe me you never want to get used to that.
The talks I put up with afterwards on the drive to work in the morning...
I remember I was trying with to make Silent hill fan film with few friends. But nothing came up from that because there was a big argument about screenplay and we decide we give up.
Girl look nice but I agree with UbikRex that she doesn't look like she can act.
Because there is nothing over the rainbow… - http://theunsunnyvalley.wordpress.com
What do actors look like?
like they can act!
The good ones usually do.
There's competition out there...
Here's a still from a fanfilm about the Denver Ghostbusters. "...this 80 plus minute fan film will be everything Freddy vs. Ghostbusters was meant to be." I can't wait to see how Ebert weighs in on this one...

Must all fanfilms feature odd facial hair? Or is the beard in fact a separate character that appears in all fan films as a running joke, much like Hitchcock?

So i've decided to go forth with the project, but it will go like this. Before we start production on a full length CHOKE fan film, I am planning a fan trailer (ex: Worlds Finest) to test the waters and if that goes over well we will begin production on a full length movie. For SOME information, here are some pictures of people I've casted.
Dr. Marshall

The actors for Denny and Victor have changed just a little....as far as facial hair goes anyway...I'll have better pics up soon in the form of a movie poster, more than liley tommorow. Production on the fan trailer should begin as sson as our camera gets back from Canada. As soon as things pick up you can also expect a site for the film.
