^Really just to experience what it felt like first hand. I know a few people that got tattoos there (or tried to before they quit midway) and they were very adamant about the excruciating pain. This isn't my only tattoo either, and the way I always approach things like this is either go big or go home so I went big and I almost regretted it lol.

The ribs are one of the worst spots. Congrats on it, looks pretty good from the pic.

When I looked at the photo I wasnt sure if you cried like a bitch because you just got your ribs tattooed, or because you just got an angel permanently etched on your skin...

just kidding! it is a beautiful piece, and looks awesome. I am a huge fan of rib pieces - be glad you went big, it was worth it.

when i got my back piece tattooed it curled a little bit onto my sides, maybe the equivalent of from your angel's feet to her mid-calf or knee... so yeah not a whole lot at all... and of the 50+ hours I was on that table getting art done, that was by far the shittiest. But if tattoos didnt hurt, they wouldnt be worth anything. There is a reason that not everyone has a beautiful 18" rib tattoo, my friend. Enjoy that.

^ LOL. I chose the angel basically cause it was the one that looked the best on my side. I had got other pictures of other things (crosses, samurai warrior, stuff like that) and though they looked pretty cool they didn't quite contour to my side as well as I wanted. I liked how the angel just kind of wraps around. It was more for artistic purposes. I have kind of that hippie mind state of your body is a canvas and you should use to express your personality.

Also 50+ hours!!!??!? Gat'damn!

The angel does wrap beautifully on your side, it looks great, and it was a good choice. Your other options had too many straight lines to allow themselves to contour as nicely to your body, the angel was a good fit.

And, yeah, 50+ hours... but they were well spread out. I think my longest session was maybe 4.5 hours, and the vast majority of them were between 2.5 - 3. I wouldnt have mind sitting for longer, at least most of the time I wouldnt, but my artist liked to work slowly, and that was cool with me... My basic premise was that I would let him do what he wanted, in the order he wanted, because I wanted him to be as comfortable as possible, since he was doing the work...

Wow, congrats on being able to actually finish it! I only have one tattoo at the moment, but I already know I could never get one there, even though I do have a high pain tolerance.

It is a beautiful piece of art.

thats a hell of a place to get a tattoo. i have an irrational fear of needles, but i could do it man. nothing compares to a three hour muscle spasm inside a half body cast.
