Buster Landru Casey
Hello,
I'm David.
I'm not exactly sure if this is the correct 'area' for this, however...
I just finished the book yesterday.
I needed some warm up time before my other work this morning, so I drafted this version of what I think the character might look like.
I might have a go at some of the scenes in the near future.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and objections.

Killer drawing!!! I'd like to think Rant is a little less deformed looking, seeing as he is so good with the ladies. Then again it's probably hard being too good looking with black teeth. But I'm always wanting the hero/anti-hero of Chuck's books to be attractive, so maybe it's just me. I'd really like a picture of Echo though. What ya think?

Great drawings and Great first post,
Those pictures are really fantastic.
Aswell its great to see another Irish member so Hello and Welcome, stick around.
Hey,
Thanks for encouragement, I appreciate it!
Adelheid - As I was reading through the book the image of this character changed radically from how I first thought of him. He did initially start of as an archetype, but slowly transformed into what I have here. I thought with that amount of venom and infection in his blood and brain, there would have to considerable damage, so I blew out his left pupil and contracted the right. This might be why it's difficult to look 'em square in the eyes.
bigshrimpn - He is a bit deformed for sure. But when you're constantly sticking your limbs down animal holes you have to expect some wear and tear. I'll give Echo a try sometime tomorrow, that should be fun.
Barca Boy - Thanks for the welcome and I'm glad you like the doodles, I'm sure I'll be hangin' around now.
Mate, I had to edit because the image size was too large. But, if you trawl around this forum you'll see that praise is not given lightly. Very nice work - great job fella.
Landru is the name of a mind controlling machine in this one Star Trek episode. Is this mentioned in the book?

How do you know this?
thanks for sharing.blackhawk tactical pants.

That picture is awesome, submit it to the main site.
Yeah, very curious about the Landru deal. Did I miss something?
The more I think about it, the better this drawing fits. Remember, it's an oral history. A buncha spaced-out nighttimers puffing up someone's legend until he achieves Godlike status. You know he's gonna be dumpy in real life, as are they.
On a side note, DJH, can you draw monkeys perchance? I'm trying to finish a website and need a few drawings of monkeys. Maybe we could work a deal out...

Good point.
Hey,
Much thanks for the support, I definitely think I'll have a go at some of the other characters, and perhaps a scene or two.
As for the Landru question, 'Buster Landru Casey' is Rants given name according to his father, and it's mentioned a few times by other characters. Bacon Carlyle was one of them, when he announces Rants death to his father.
corellion - Thanks! I'll try some of the other characters first, then send the lot 'upstairs.'
monkeywright - Yeah, that's what I was thinking. As for the Monkeys, I’ve drawn many of them. Send me an email with what you have in mind, and I'll see what can be done.

I'm down with the Trek.
Wow, I love your style! You gots talent that's for sure.
Can't wait to see Echo...
Good stuff there. What's the dimensions on it? I kind of pictured his hands to be more messed up and pock-marked, but showing the veins still gives them a good rough feel.
Definitely share anymore characters if you get the itch to draw them.

That's brilliant, the pupil thing, can I steal that?
Also, this is absolutely not a criticism because I love the way it comes off in the piece. but I'd imagine with him going back in time "Stoking" his genes that he'd have fixed the receding hairline thing by now.
Amazing work bud...keep it up...can't wait to see more!
Hey,
First off, I got a chance this morning to draft Echo.
Unfortunately I've only just got finished my other work, so I won't get a chance to scan her 'till tomorrow morning.
alex pallix - Thanks, I really appreciate it!
nathaniel parker - Hey Nathaniel, it's drawn on a rough and cheap bit of A3 sketch paper. Fairly low quality, but I was really only testing the water. I agree with you about the arms, it's the only part of it I might still mess with. Although with the hairline I have to go back to the animal hole thing. I'm fairly certain he is mentioned sticking his head in there occasionally.
Adelheid - Thanks again. Apparently this does occur in certain types of brain damage. Wiki it, and it's yours for free.
jough - Much thanks, and more is on the way.
Can't wait!!! I can't help but associate your picture with Rant everytime I go back and read it again in my ongoing attempt to figure it all out. You've given Rant a face in my imagination whether I like it or not. Maybe if you ever get around to doing Green Taylor Simms, you may be able to tell me about what age you will picture him as..

in my humble opinion you are a great artist. love to see more.

Oh my God! You're a good artist, I like them a lot but somehow this really...startled me. I can't just look at him, I keep scrolling up and staring intently and wanting to look away, it's mildly nauseating. Awesome, though.
