What if?
What do you think would happen to all of us if Chuck Palahniuk was never born... Would we be different people? Would we be unaffected (You can't miss what you can't know) Whatever your answer is explain it.

this post wouldn't have existed. see, there are benefits.
sure we may call ourselves "the cult" and we may pretend to "know" one another, but i doubt anyone here would be any different with or without chuck and his works. it's fiction, entertainment. be entertained by it, don't try to develop a creed based on it.

My views on writing would be different, and as a writer that makes a huge difference to me. His works have made a big impact on my life, but I don't know how different I'd be without Teh Cult.
I wouldn't get to be a Laz groupie.
That bitch didn't show me anything I didn't already know, he just confirmed it.

So: not only has the Quote function appeared too challenging, but you've also yet to figure out how to use the Edit button.

Of course we'd be different; everything affects us. There's no way you can really measure how much though. Some of us might be dead, since we could've been killed in car accidents but weren't because we were safely at a CP reading at that exact moment.
On the other hand, someone could have died on their way to a CP reading; someone who would still be alive right now had Chuck not been born.
That's just an obvious example, there are a million other ways a simple book or author changes us.

if chuck was never born i probably never would have realized that as messed up as i am, there's always someone worse off. i never would have started reading again and i might not have realized how much cooler i am than most people i meet. (except for the people in the cult. you all are way cooler than me...)
i don't care for your naime, but, do you want to dance?
meet me somewhere and we shall dance the night away.
listen close to the speakers, alright.
behave. cliche. wrong
machine gun boy is rattling off right now. the kindler gentler version of himself. boy, that comment wasn't aimed at you, but i love you because i can talk to you now.

If you find Chuck it means you were already looking for him. This is a place for like minded (to a greater degree) people to meld and share. It's a happy place for an unhappy bunch of reprobates.
So in answer to your question - no I don't think I am any different than before I was exposed to Chuck, perhaps a little bit more impatient due to the time it takes for Chuck to write and publish another masterpiece.

booya, granny.
Why can't we just be happy that Chuck was born? I, for one, am. I've always written as I do and when I first read the books I was thrilled to see someone who can accomplish what I have always thought was entertainment. He has such a unique style- he uses words beautifully- he doesn't sugar coat- what he writes makes me want to vomit and cry tears of joy at the same time. We wouldn't be different we'd just have one less point of veiw to go by.

I take umbrage to this attack. Please read the thread before you reply to reduce the risk of looking stupid.
At no point did I say that I don't respect and enjoy Chucks work. I think I used the word masterpiece when referring to his work.
By the way you make me want to vomit too. Chuck "uses words beautifully"...I think even Chuck would argue this point.
I am offended at being called "like-minded".
Nor am I a reprobate. I am simply a misanthrope.

In that case you technically are a reprobate.
Please look up "reprobate" in the dictionary. Compare and contrast with "misanthrope".
Thank you.

No need
I know the meanings perhaps you should take your own advice...but i will indulge you...
You say you don't like people....now that would be morally bad? Which inturn would be a characteristic of a depraved person who is essentially a "reprobate".
I welcome you to argue the point. In fact I look forward to the semantics you will offer.
Arguing about semantics is like trying to jerk off while you're drunk. It can go on forever, and its fun for a while, but in the end there won't be any payoff. So you may as well just give up and go to bed.
Do whatever you want with my so-called "attack" but tell me why you are so annoyed by what I said. Maybe you should re-read my post. I never said that you didn't respect Chuck's works. I was agreeing to what you said. I then added thoughts of my own. Are you telling me that my opinions of the way someone uses words are wrong? The feelings and pictures he portrays are vivd. You want to tell me my mind- go right ahead- please, however, be warned that I don't plan on changing my views on anything just so I won't make you want to vomit.
Reprobate - "abandoned by God, or turned away from same" or "Destined for Hell."
Misanthrope - One who hates people.
Is hating people necessarily "morally bad"? More to the point, does it automatically doom one to Hell?
Some A = B != All B = A. QED.

i was on the verge of sellling out spiritually, then i saw fight club and read fight club and some of chuck's other books. fight club really woke me up from this funk i was in.
If chuck wasn't around, i probably would have been obsessed with making money and being sucessful through making money and getting married for the sake of getting married and having kids for the sake of having kids. i guess i would have let external pressures of being normal and having a normal life get the best of me.
I feel like by discovering great writers and thinkers like chuck palahniuk, i feel more inspired to do things for myself, and not just for everybody else. that;s just me, though.
and btw, don't be discouraged if the clowns can't manage to have interesting conversation exactly when you want them too, a lot of these people on these bords are very smart and funny, if you remind them of it.

Sorry if I got it wrong.
Your reply reads a bit harshly and because you had quoted me I thought it was directed towards me. I missed the positive reference.
I guess this is one of the draw backs of message boards. One has to be concise, or risk the possibility of being misconstrued.
A lesson learnt.
