what do you like so much about chuck?
I was just interested in seeing why everyone else enjoys chuck's books so much...
what he said ^
and also, because he's such a sexy beast.
Strong relatable characters, everyday feelings and scenarios being taken to the extremes n the guy has the cahones to explore the darker side of the human psyche n see the humour in the things that most people deny even thinking about.
There are no pacts between lions and men.

Same here. When you read a book you really think Chuck knows exactly what he's talking about. The man does his research: academically and socially.
i liked him because he reminded people that books dont have to be boring and should never be boring
but, alas, hes come to be boring, in my opinion. hopefully he will turn it around eventually
chuck makes good writing fun to read. that and he's a natural satirist. a fucking funny man, his humor is empowering.
He holds it for a breath at waist level and turns it once for assessment. The steel barrel and along its chassis is oiled in an off shade of red, the blood smeared and somewhat caked on. In parts, it resembles a stillborn, a dark fetal horse that is all legs and wet skin.
I like reading about emotionally disturbed people trying to fit in. I recently just learned the term transgressional literature/movie. A haven for misfits that don't feel like they belong.
I like how even after I can read something as bad as Haunted, I stil <3<3<3<3 him!
THIS IS THE HAPPIEST TALE EVER TOLD EVER.
Goodnight, Moon was a suicide note.
I like that his books are fluid and emotional charged. It's a rare thing to find so many characters within an author's repetoire that are both interesting and believable. It's also impressive to read a work of fiction and come away with a better understanding of real life. Probably most appreciated, is the fact that when I finish the last page in one of Chuck's novels, I am by no means finished digesting it.

Me too. I like stories where the protagonist is a sociopath. Probably the same I reason I read Irvine Welsh books.

Generally all that can be said of reading fiction, is that its purpose is to entertain. Chuck transcends this hugely - his work is so cathartic, visceral and thoughtful, it's just a joy to read over and over again.
In other words - thumbs up
The sarcasm, twisted plots and the way he poignantly displays society at its worst.

all of the above (especially the sexy beast comment)

I think that one possible definition of our modern culture is that it is one in which nine-tenths of our intellectuals can't read any poetry.

Morality, like art, means drawing a line someplace.

I think why I like Chuck so much is because he really makes me think. Reading his books allows me to see life from a different perspective. He has such a nice writing and exploits unusual themes.
My way of seeing things changed a lot since I started reading his books, and it even changed my behavior. Chuck's book had a big impact on my life.
The humor. When i read about his characters I always find a piece of myself in them, or a piece of them in myself. They're all alone and searching for something.
If it weren't for physics there would be no stopping me.
I love his exploration of identity from a variety of perspectives .
I love how this theme can be traced through all of his novels in novel ways.
I love how each character is so uniquely constructed.
I love every mind-numbing twist that makes me reconsider my place in the universe.
Basically, every time I read or reread one of Chuck's novels, I see something new and shocking in the world, internally and externally... and yeah, it makes me reconsider and second guess everything (that is except for my love of literature).

I love his distinct writing style and how every book has a twist at the end. His writing is bizarre, addicting, and unpredictable. He's just different and I can never get enough.
"The sun may burn brightly, and the faces of children may be plump and achingly sweet, but in the air we breathe, in the water we drink and in the food we share, there will always be darkness in the world."
I, personally, had not heard of Palahniuk until I had seen the movie, Fight Club. I imagine that I'm not the only one, either. After I finished watching Fight Club, I was completely astounded by what I had just seen. Every moment of the film was captivating and always kept me guessing. So, after that I had to find out more about this 'Chuck Palahniuk'.
Most books or novels that I read before being introduced to Palahniuk were classic novels (i.e. books that I was forced to read while in school). I wasn't really a big fan of reading before. This was mainly because I had never found a piece of literature that could keep me entertained enough to stay interested. Then, I watched Fight Club. This was in 2002. I was a sophomore in high school. I lived in a small town of conservative rednecks who had not even known that it was racist to call a black man the "N" word. So, once I was introduced to Chuck's literary genius, it was like my first cigarette. I was addicted.
So, the first novel that I actually read of his was 'Lullaby'. The second I started reading, I could not put this book down. Palahniuk's stories were just what I needed. After reading 'Lullaby', reading anything else that wasn't written by Chuck just seemed, to me, like a waste of time.
She's Gone Gilligan And She Took The Skipper With Her.
I like those yellow checkered shoes of his.
I like his use of repetition. It effectively proves a point while drilling a phrase into your consciousness. I also like the escapism of the novels and how his characters are driven to extremes in order to escape societal pressures.
Also the general humor and writing style.
I think chuck is a deep thinker and is very reflective on the modern world he lives in. I love how this comes out in his books but in a very interesting and creative sense, like mentioned before through ideology, metaphor or symbolism.
His work is just fun for me to read, it makes me laugh, cry, makes me hold my breath without realizing. Also love his writing style being straight to the point, with interesting facts. The dark nature of his books just grips that darker opposite of me just wanting to get out.
These are the first things that come to mind,
I enjoy his since of wit, sarcasm, and humor. The minimalist, transgressional writing style is by far one of my favored styles. He explores the human psyche's more sinister thoughts, making the story all the more believable.
“Those who argue that art and philosophy are proof of human worth neglect to mention that, in the scheme we have devised, artists and philosophers are powerless and largely without prestige. Art, music, and philosophy are merely poignant examples of what we might have been had not the priests and traders gotten hold of us.” - George Carlin
Guy got me into reading.
"My hopes lay shattered like a mirror on the floor
I see myself and I look really scattered
But I lived my broken dreams"
- Daniel Johnston

I just enjoy the twisted stories and the good writing. I used to enjoy the incredible ideaologies in there too but there doesn't seem to be as many in his newer stuff. Still though, I think a bad chuck book is better than 90% of anything else new coming out.
