Fan Mail Stuff
So, I've just really gotten into Chuck's work. I absolutely love it, I just finished 'Choke' and 'Invisible Monsters' in the last month. I also have ordered 'Rant' to be shipped to me. Here's the thing though, I want to send him some fan mail. Maybe just say 'Hey, I love your stuff' and tell him about how his work has influenced me and changed my outlook on reading in general... Just I guess stuff I think he'd like to hear. But when I checked, 'the cult' said that I couldn't send him fan mail... So that kinda angers me, because I just want to tell Chuck how much I appreciate his stuff and I can't. I've written other authors before and it hasn't been a problem. I dunno, I guess I just wish I could tell Chuck how great I think his stuff is, and I can't...
Post comments and your opinions on this here.
oh. hmm. thanks. and no, if I were really named after 'Tyler Durden' i would be 12 years old at best. no 12 year old should be reading 'Fight Club'. second, who would name their child after Tyler Durden, he was a sociopath?! third, durdenalexander is a SCREEN name based on Tyler Durden and Brandy Alexander my two favorite characters written by Chuck.
and thanks! its good to be a member.
Sociopath - a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
Tyler Durden was not a sociopath. Although he was not afraid to use tactics some may consider sociopathic, they were not used out of a lack of morality.
Anyways, you may be surprised to learn how many people share your desire to connect with The Palahniuk, and that window is an amazing benefit to his fans when it is open. He is the among the most generous and open public figures you may ever interact with. He just can't be that way all the time, otherwise he'd be unemployed. Don't worry, you'll get your chance. Also, stay updated on when he's touring via this site, you can meet him in person if you like. He's not a hard person to communicate with, he's just not always 100% accesible.

How can a 12 year old have a kid?
I got it, Derek. But I know you.
Maybe it takes a little time before you can get your sarcasm to come across properly. You can't just spring it on people that don't know you.
Good coffee is like drinking Rock and Roll.
I think he likes me!
I think everyohne else got the sarcasm. as Derek would say, Fair play to you, Derek.

i love the phrase avante garde. Ludwig, what does it mean?

Brentinlouis Wrote: What was that rule about being intentionally annoying?
It's like an artistic overhaul of that which has come before, taking something in a totally new direction and pushing the boundaries of what was previously accepted as the pinnacle. That may be a bit of an overstatement for what the classical def is, but that's what I always thought it to mean, its something along those lines.

ya good thoughts. I knew it was like, crazy completely unpractical fashion and art, but you were a lot more eloquent. I'd like for the French Ludwig or anyone else that speaks frnxh to say what the literal translation is.

progressive would be another good way to explain it. I meant French up there.

play hard, like it's work to be done.
Avant-garde is first of all a military term, it simply means vanguard (which I suppose is derived from it). The vanguard are the soldiers who march in front of the army, and their job is to explore and secure a new territory.
The avant-garde of an artistic movement is the small group of people who initiate a new style, before anyone knows about it and it becomes mainstream.

Every couple of years Chuck replies to all his fanmail sent in during a designated period. The last window was about a year and a half ago so yo are out of luck. The first place to hear about it would be at The Cult so stickaround.
BTW Welcome to the Cult, did your parents call you Durden Alexander after Tyler Durden?
