Yea, why is this a sausage factory?

it ain't gonna be. Just because us 6 or 7 nerds think were the only ones that are coming doesn't make it so. All the hot Cultie babes are in Chicago and England, everyone knows that. But there will be many people at this function, not just the folks that post on this board.
Oh, and if your thinking " Hey, I'm not a nerd" just realixe that your posting on an internet bulletin board and making plans with your "online friends" and you are excited and this isn't a sex site. That = nerd!

Any female Chuck fan has to be a freak.
No offense smokie.
Anyways, yea. I'm not a nerd. Now if you'll excuse me, I'ma go dress like a stormtrooper and watch Star Wars.
That's not true. I dislike Star Wars greatly. You could even say I despise it. I just wanted to be celver. Celver? Yea, that's it.
And who says this isn't a sex site? You're like a big grizzly bear. Grooowl.
Bed time.

It's not a sex site but I can type words like fuck and dick and cunt. And ya know what? I like that. It makes me happy. Because sometimes, those words are appropriate.
Oh, but to be on topic, we're (Cultist) are all meeting before the event correct. How long before. Are we gonna all get to barney ka nobles really fucking early and take up the first rows? i am a firm believer that it's never to early to make concrete plans.

Uhm, I never denied being a freak. Have you read anything I've written lately?
And I'm not a nerd, I'm a dork. Too bad I missed out on the huge glasses as a kid. And the braces (But we're poor.)
Oh and I agree.
I want to be there super early.
Why?
Because I'm paranoiid.
I'm for drinks and sandwiches somewhere by noon, and taking over the Barnes and Nobles by 2pm.
VP - Workshop Dog
I concur, but no drinks for me, I'm a youngin' unless one of you fine gentleman wants to buy me one.

yes, I am a very patient man. I can sit and wait like no body's business.

Whatcho talkin bout "sit and wait"? We can sit and read, rattle and discuss. Turn the coffee bar section into a forum, scare everyday shoppers with our good looks, make fun of Dan Brown books. The list is practically endless.
VP - Workshop Dog

Mmm, coffee...
i can't believe she offered to drink with you guys if one of you bought her some and no one said yes. L7s.
THANKYOU!!!
I was waiting.
They all have morals I think. Or maybe just don't want to get caught with a nineteen year-old Russian drinking.
Or maybe they're afraid I would drink them under the table.
This is shaping up to a good looking event.
Maybe everyone should bring some things that they have written and we could take over a coffeehouse and have our own reading the night after.
it's a better idea than VP's Star Wars idea. Man oh man, I am getting excited.
daley that's the best bunny pick yet. He has your eyes.
I LOve STAR Wars so i say!
I checked out the link for that hostel and it looks pretty sweet. Would anyone who is thinking about going maybe be interested in splitting one of those rooms or something? I'm looking at it from a standpoint of not wanting to drive 6 hours back after the event through mountains and shit like that. I've done it before, it's not fun...
Justin
I want to get in on the 30th because I'll spend the day of the 31st walking about stress free. I'm up for splitting a room. but i warn you, i sleep walk, i think, or just get up at like three o'clock to work the jitters i get in my gullet. anyway let me know

also like to get kabol, minuet, Nineinch, alex, karrem (wait i think he is going), cin, jody, ralph, WN, and a slew of others my unstimulated mind can't recall. yeah,
at this rate we could take over new York. haha.. Actually had a dream that we all got arrested because they thought we were prone to terrorist activities, and I think I said, "I'm just looking for spiderman asshole."

I would also like to get there on the 30th for much of the same reasons...
I noticed that Robert mentioned maybe wanting to for the one night also. Looking over their site, if I am looking at the right property, they have one of those 4 bedroom mixed dorm deals. I suppose we could go that route, I don't know.
Which of the two places are people staying at/easiest to navigate from.
Also, one glaring thing I did not notice any mention of with either two places was parking. Is it assumed to just find a garage/place on the street?

I'm staying at the central park location. I didn't see anything about parking. You may want to call the hostels to find out.
HAHA.
Am I the only Cultie chick coming?
Judas and I are both going too.
this really ought to be an excellent outing for antisocial types with chips on their shoulder. looking forward to meeting a few people who've tolerated my guff from time to time.

hahahahaha! that's creepy
My editor almost didn't want to give me the day off on May 31. I have the comp day, I worked the overtime and earned it, but he felt that it would affect some kind of scheduling thing.
The first thing he said was: "Rob, I don't know if we can spare you that night."
Ten minutes later, the conversation ended with: "Well, Rob, enjoy your day off."
There was a shitstorm somewhere in the middle there.

Man, I'm in stitches. But what's with those big yellow dots on my already pasty-skinned, over-exposed photograph? That makes me feel like the naked Beatle on the Abbey Road album cover or something like that. Creepy.

When I made that it came out with spots seeing through so I colored them in so it look like the sun was hitting you sorta. I did that with shitty windows paint with the cropping and pasting. Photoshop would have made it look completely real if I had it.
Mirk,
YES! More women
.
And Ubik,
That was a creepy ass picture.
All right, folks. We got a little bit over a week to go before mayhem dawns on the Big Apple. A lot of plans have been thrown out, so I think it's time to start figuring out some kind of rough game plan. I'm all for variables, but something vaguely centered would help. This is only a hop for me, but for a number of others it's a long skip and an extended jump.
First is: Are we meeting somewhere before we get to Barnes and Noble, which we should get to early? This might be a good place to relax, grab some food or drink before we head over. And meet in person, for most of us. My suggestion was a coffee place on St. Mark's, the Yaffe Cafe, between 1st Ave and Ave A.
Next, the illustrious Dennis has said it's good to show up early. And I know a lot of people want to do that. So I'd be so bold as to say it would be good for those of us who want to assemble, to get to the cafe at around 1 p.m., with an aim toward getting at B&N at 2 or 3.
Finally, where does everyone want to head afterwards? Is there a glut of Cult members under drinking age? Some bars I know will not card. Others will. I can suggest three bars that would probably be the best bet -- KGB (will card), St. Dymphnas (won't card), or Apocalypse Lounge (probably won't card).
All these things are within walking distance of B&N. Their prices are on the lower scale, when it comes to New York, but don't be surprised if it's a little more expensive than some of you are used to.
And Daley suggested that maybe we can get together, possibly Monday night, for an impromptu Cult reading. Sounds like it could be fun. I'm still trying to get in contact with my friend, who bartends at Apocalypse, where there's a big basement which we could possibly take over for a night. They're artistic, so they might even encourage it, and we could probably draw a lot of curious people in to check it out.
Maybe we can even do it after the signing. I just need to have an idea of how many people we would have, and when we would be showing up, for when I call my friend. That's part of the reason I wanted to get moving on this early.
(psst, Dennis. Invite Chuck to our reading.)
So, how does this sound to everyone? Does anyone have different ideas or different plans? Does anyone want to start a cell number exchange so we could coordinate some of this as we get closer?
Rock and roll, folks.

*Yaffa cafe at 1pm.
-Please post the address and the pronunciation.
*B&N around 2 or 3pm.
-Because bookclerks love Chuck fans and they hope we'll stay all day.
-Because Chuck like to show up and even sign books early.
*Aplocalypse Lounge after the reading.
-Maybe even CP will come. We'll have fun regardless.
Will PM for cell number exchange.
VP - Workshop Dog
Allright.
I'm down with Yaffa but I suggest 12:00 because people will be late, and plus coffee is a good time.
I'm underage, and if I'm invited would love to come to the pre-reading.
And I have off from work the day after too so I can stay out late.
Will PM for cellphones.

It probably would make more sense to hold our reading, if we do one, after the event. So if we can get a rough idea of how many people would be showing up, I'll make the call. Apocalypse has got a good beer and wine selection, although not always hard liquor. But, it's cheap.
Yaffa Cafe
97 St. Mark's Pl., between First Ave. and Ave. A
Subway: 6 to Astor Pl. Cocktail garden party meets Middle Eastern disco lounge. Sandwiches $4.50-7, salads around $6, veggie entrees $7, chicken entrees $9. Super weekend brunch $9. Beer $3.50. The beautiful outdoor garden is open all summer. Open 24hr.
212-674-9302 or 677-9001
There's big black and white checkerboard painting on the building. Not easy to miss. It's closer to the corner of 1st Ave. I guess it's pronounced as it's spelled.

Smokie is right, noon might be better. Because people will be late and stuff. Noon, 12:30, something like that.
And, babes, I will do my best to make sure you can get into Apocalypse. I've never seen them card, and I don't want to say they never will, but as long as my boy is working, you'll be fine. Even if it's just for a bit, you should be there.

Oh and I would suggest meeting at that train stop.
At the place where the cube used to be.
Or at Astor Place, 6 train stop.
Thanks Rob,
I want to be there.

I think people will be able to make their way over. And we'll have cell phones, so we can direct people around. It's not too hard to get around in the city.
Although, and I stress this:
If anyone here needs to ask for directions, ask a deli owner or a cop. Do not just ask anyone on the street.
Nine times out of ten, I'll say "two blocks up and one to the left," no matter where in the city I am, and no matter if I even know about where you're headed.
"The true New Yorker secretly believes that people living anywhere else have to be, in some sense, kidding." — John Updike
Totally go with a deli man.
I am so down for a Cult reading, but I need to know ASAP when and if that's going to happen so that I can plan the time off for it. The night before would be the hardest for me, as I'll be returning from a memorial day weekend trip. Before or after the reading could work, I'm considering taking Wednesday morning off as well and just crashing with a friend down in the city tuesday night. I haven't partied in the city in ages.
Oh, and will PM for cell phones...

errr, going to follow this map and be at the cafe.
Smoke I don't have a cell, or any phone for that matter, so I'll just be wondering until I find a happy go round group of freaks.
I need to add: If we do get the basement of Apocalypse, we're probably going to be restricted to 20 or 25 people, possibly 30. I'm talking to the owner this weekend and I'm going to ask him how many people can fit, but based on the size of the basement, those are the numbers I'm guessing.
My point is: Don't start sending out invitations to everyone. We'll have to be somewhat conservative.
And I won't say exactly what, but I'm working on some surprises for our reading.

When: After Chuck's reading, starting between 11 p.m. and midnight
Where: Apocalypse Lounge, on 3rd St. between Avenues A and B
We are set, folks. Many of you have seen me going back and forth on PMs, so I could get a bearing on the plans.
Here's the game plan for what may be the first official Cult reading.
Very important: This is a list of the people who are reading/attending/maybe attending. If you are not on this list, get in touch with me, so I can add you to it. Also, if you are showing up with a friend, let me know. I need to have an idea of how many people are showing up.

Any questions, let me know.
There are no limits or anything. It's open to poetry, short stories, whatever.
And for those of you who aren't from NY, last call doesn't hit until 4 a.m. So we got some time to manifest our rhyme.
Also, to the readers. If you have an idea of what you're reading, hit me up with some titles and bylines.
Thanks and cheers.
