Cult Meet-Up - NYC May 31st Reading!
No hallelujas for you, but you can have a holler.
Yaffa is the shit, wouldn't say it's cheap though, but I'm a po' ass mofo.
I'll be uhm me. Short and shit. And looking like me.
And I'll probably be with people.

I like the avatar.
Please, bring people. Make them women.
This jam is turning into a sausage party.

all it takes is $60 and a dream.
People will come.
They will be female.
Do I get some boys though?
(And thanks)

I would assume so. I mean, are there any other chicks on the Cult attending besides you and Mirka? Who I think has two x chromosomes as compared to my one.
So, yea, sausage fest. Smokie, rejoice.

A:P i don't give two shits about leg work so I'd like to find a safe parking spot for the whole day since i hope to get into the city early afternoon. I'll have to print out the advice you gave and look it over. it's been probably seven years since I've been to NY. I'm debating on whatever I should get a room somewhere because I wont be driving that night. I usually always sleep in my car on short trips like this, but I've been told it's not the best thing to do in the city.
BTw
Bringing
HAUNTED and STRANGER THAN FICTION.
If chuck is signing than I'd love to get his on both. But on the haunted I gotta get all the culties I meet to sign, because i'm mushy sentimental like that.

That's a pretty good idea, getting all us fuckers to sign it. Should be fun. Maybe I'll pull the same.
The only problem you'll have with sleeping in your car is that the cops will hassle you if they see you. Otherwise you should be fine. Anyone who says New York is a dangerous city doesn't live here or is full of shit.
I mean, it's dangerous, but if it was as dangerous as people say -- with all the shitty neighborhoods I've been in, in the middle of the night, fucked up on various chemicals -- I would be dead by now.

Good Dr. and Sir, Anxious Phoenix, Get ready to do some drinkin'
Bssmokie - get ready for ...umm..uh.. shhh.. don't tell.
Really, I am so fucking excited! Maybe some of us could take a trip to DC to hear Chuck read there too!

Now, this is a hell of a surprise. I was disappointed when I realized that the other Rob wouldn't be able to attend, as he was too damn far away.
I think you just made my night, and terrified me into realizing that this is going to more of a test of my liver than I had first realized.
I'll be with a bevy of beautiful women, bar-hopping at a bunch of dives in the East Village, on May 28. Just as I am most Saturday nights. So you're welcome to join us.
PM me if you want my cell. I'll show you around the city.

are you bringing the BUNNY! Get one of those back pack thingies that are front packs... you know, the kind mothers wear. Bring the bunny to the reading, have chuck sign his fur ... but suppose the plane might make him sick, although it would be a great learning experience for him/her.
mate not much of a drinker, . , yet I'm up for anything else.... Just don't plan on me taking pictures of urinals when there's buildings to climb! They get REdundant! (we gotta find spiderman
)
are you going to be in new York at the time we meet for Java? think it best if we start there, go to the reading, and see what falls....no?

Rock and roll. This keeps getting better.

hahahaahah!! WELL DONE PUPPY! are we scheduling a place to meet before the the reading: Yah or Na? like to know because it looks like this is going to be cult mania...
I think we should pull a cachophany society type gag. Wouldn't it be great if we ALL showed up at Chuck's reading dressed in supergeek Star Wars outfits, armed with toy lightsabers and the works. Then, when the chuckster rolls out, one of us yells:
"You're not George Lucas!"
Then a second one from another row yells: "That's Harrison Ford, you dirt wad!"
Then: "It is not, big stupid guy in a bad wookie outfit!!"
And he says: This is not an outfit, I'm just a hairy guy, you dweeb."
And so on.
It could culminate in a "bounty hunter" drawing his toy laser, and a calm, quiet Jedi suddenly leaping to his feet and thacking the bounty hunter's arm with his plastic light saber, at which point, the guy drops the gun and crumples over, acting like he's just heard Chuck readin' Guts. But before the Jedi can deactivate his weapon and beat an exit, he's engaged with a Sith Lord, and they battle all the way out the door, leaving Barnes&Noble emplyees stunned at our usual creativity.
Either that or a troop of Santa's bursts in to pacify the Star Wars rebellion with massive amounts of whipped cream and whirling donuts.

YAY PEOPLE ARE COMING,
I propose either Yaffa, a chill joint with smoking possibility but with over-priced food or DOJO's East, a Japanese type place with funky cheap tasty food but no smoking.
Both are around the same block.

YAY!

They're all within walking distance. Nothing is ever too far away. Even if it's raining or something, it's only a 4 or 5 dollar cab ride.
And no matter how much I drink, I always find where I need to go. Internal radar. Manhattan is a giant grid. If you get lost above Houston St., you have a problem.

This is shaping up to a good looking event.
Maybe everyone should bring some things that they have written and we could take over a coffeehouse and have our own reading the night after.
it's a better idea than VP's Star Wars idea. Man oh man, I am getting excited.

I checked out the link for that hostel and it looks pretty sweet. Would anyone who is thinking about going maybe be interested in splitting one of those rooms or something? I'm looking at it from a standpoint of not wanting to drive 6 hours back after the event through mountains and shit like that. I've done it before, it's not fun...

You're kidding, right? Better than my Star Wars idea? Come on now, Daley, it's golden I tell ya, golden!
But really, I'm kind of a low key guy in real life. If you guys want a little Cult Conference, for reading something you're working on or anything else, make it the night before Chuck's reading, or the day of, early, right there at the B&N maybe. The night after, I'm catching a plane.

That's a cool idea but I'd be at work the night after. And I work until 1 a.m. But I'll be off for the reading and possibly Memorial Day.
But, my friends work at a bar called Apocalypse Lounge, which is really quirky and weird and I think would fit into our scene.
So I'll make a call and see if we can take over the basement for the night, maybe on Monday night. Might be hard since it's a holiday and all, but there's a ton of room down there, tables, not as loud as upstairs. Could possibly work well.
Let me know what y'all think. I'll either call in or just ask him when I'm invariably half concious at the bar sometime this coming weekend.

Please note, I currently have hair and I will probably have a pair of aviators plastered to my face for most of the night. I also may wear my cowboy hat.
Amen to that. Any chance there'd be some parking nearby? I can be there around 3.
I'll be the short guy wearing a hideous orange t-shirt with no logos on it, and probably carpenter jeans. i've got very short brown hair and I'll probably be wearing my glasses and a backpack with books to keep me occupied just in case i don't find anybody.
There'll be parking, it just won't be easy to find. Put in some legwork. Your best bet is to hang a right on Avenue D and just criss cross. Go down 3rd or 4th Streets, whichever one lets you take a left, and go down to First Ave. Then, hook around on first and go up the next street. They're all one-ways and they alternate. You will hit a park in the middle of there at some point, but if you keep strong on this, you should find a spot eventually.
