Oh yes. I got my package today. I got basically what everyone else got, but I got a power koala.

When i woke up I knew it was coming today, I just knew it, and I'm glad it did.

The box was incredible. Most of the stuff I got was the same as everyone else's, although there were a few variations.

I didn't get a necklace, but I was one of the people that got a shiny red Swiss Army knife. It's SO cool. It's one of those really complicated ones, with scissors and saws and tweezers and wine cork openers. Amazing.

I also got a plastic carrot, and when you open it up there's a pack of carrot seeds inside (which is greatly amusing when you put it into the context of "Guts"...haha).

Something else I got that I haven't seen anyone else mention: a hologram card that zooms in and out of a grizzly bear and says "You make life bearable." I also got a big sticker that's uses the exact same swirly/cursive font used in the disney logo, except it says "Disappointed" instead. It looks like this:

Had a big laugh at that one.

Also...In my letter, I mentioned to Chuck that I wrote a story called "Fingernails" that was published in my college literary magazine. So he signed my tour stories cd: "Bedtime Stories for Justin "Fingernails" Jones"....which made me feel really special.

His letter was wonderful. I asked him a lot of questions about where he gets ideas for stories, and how I can find a trully original voice. His advice was perfect.

All in all, an incredible experience. This is part of why Chuck is my favorite author. The guy makes you feel like you're really part of something big. There's a sense of community. It's exciting.

Can't wait for the next window.

I was worried it would never come. It sounded too wonderful to be true.

The only thing I haven't seen already posted is the set of heart shaped measuring spoons. What a rad thing to have in your kitchen. In my head, someone, someday, is going to be in my kitchen and say "oh, these are cute, where did you get them?"

I sent mine around the 16 of October, and got it two Saturdays ago. Coincidentally, I had just finished editing and was about to post a blog about Haunted on my Myspace when the delivery dude showed up at my door with two packages. I saw the return adress on one, and thought they were both from Chuck (and the second one was huge...I was dissapointed to open it and realize it was a textbook I had ordered). I couldn't wait to pop open Chuck's. As soon as I took a peek inside, I closed it back up and got my camcorder set up to film me going through it. I'm not going to list everything, but among the items were visible carrots, and carrot seeds. I noticed that he personalized the cd's for me, with info he picked up from my letter.

Oh yeah, and my power animal is a moose.

And dude from way earlier...If you didn't remember the power animal, you can't exactly call yourself a fan.

YIPEE!!!!
My parcel arrived today. I always had faith in Chuck but I had my doubts about the US and Irish postal service, especially since my address has no numbers. The package arrived just before lunch, I was like a kid on Christmas morning, my hands were shaking opening it. My power animal is a squirrel. The best was the letter and also the Photo of Chuck, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton and co. Its just a pity I cant reply and express my thanks, its really made my week start off great. If he ever does a reading in Ireland again Im gonna make up my own parcel for him.

Mine came today! what an amazing feeling. i recieved plenty of amazing gifts.. Pretty much the same as everyone else. I also got strawberry and cream body butter and a cute box of minature chocs. My power animal was a goldfish.. he said he had included that as i had wrote to him saying about my fish! The letter seemed really heartfelt too, he ended the letter amazingly telling me to trade my youth for a passion of mine. It really has made my year so far. We shouldd all be sooo grateful that he has taken time out to send us all such wonderful gifts. xx

hurrah! I got mine!!

I got a lot of the previously mentioned stuff. And glitter that I got covered in. I didn't get a power animal...but I got a photo of Chuck's dog (wearing a little jumper!!) and an advance copy of Rant which I cannot believe he sent me!

I mentioned my boyfriend in my letter and we have actually just 'separated' but he sent each of us a necklace which was so nice. I was totally flabbergasted and my ex couldn't believe it all!

I am so stoked.

Wow, that's sick that you got an advance copy. I just pre-ordered one from St. Helen's, can't wait for it.

Yes, got mine just now!
I thought it would take longer to get to Croatia, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The package contained many of the already mentioned things, including a yo-yo (which I still haven't figured out how to use), harmonica, folding pocket comb, temporary tattoo of some Chinese character, those photos of his dog and him with Brad Pitt and Ed Norton. Plus other random stuff, and a whole lot of glitter. My power animal is also a moose.
His letter was very nice and inspiring. I know it's not easy to answer all those letters, and I'm really glad he cares so much about his fans.
He mentioned he has a funny book (I asked him about writing a comedy book, like Adams or Pratchett) coming out in 2008 called "Snuff"; I don't know if it has been already mentioned here. Any more information on this?

I'll bet "Snuff" is the "porno movie" book that was mentioned in that article about "Rant" (see Rant section if you missed it). It makes perfect sense, yes?

i mailed my letter on the 31st and i got my package a few days ago. Interestingly, I mailed my letter on Halloween and he mailed the reply on Valentine's Day. I actually 'discovered' it over the weekend, just sitting in the corner of my front (covered) porch. i have no idea how long it was sitting there. That's not where they usually put packages. i felt like a little kid at christmas opening it. Pretty much variations on what everyone has already listed, but i wanted to share this little nugget from my letter:

"Remember - writing is the opposite of consumer culture: it costs you nothing, yet you're still occupied, entertained and producing something worth while. Now, get to it."

HA!
I'm still waiting for the day Chuck responds to hate mail either by a) sending a love package regardless of how much someone was being an ass, or Glasses sending them a package that reflects their remarks, like a box of chicken guts or slug diarrhea.

Right here. I eagerly run to the mailbox every day hoping to see a little box, which I hope contains an ARC of "Rant".

I did ask him about future books of his, so hopefully he threw it in.

Why wouldn't your letter arrive?

You mean the letter from Chuck? When I sifted through my package, I didn't even see a letter, so I was a tad dissapointed, but then I noticed it under all the confetti at the bottom.

if he's got 2,000 left still i'd guess he got twice as many letters as he did during the last fan mail window

wouldn't surprise me if the next one is just limited to a two week period

This really is a perfect setup to announce a month or two before it opens, cause that way, the die hards are coming to the site anyway, so they'll see when the window's open. I can imagine how crazy it got when he was getting big and it was always open. This kinda keeps it sane, or at least contains it.

My Package came in on Saturday at home, and I had it forwarded to where I am right now, and I just got it today! Chuck ROCKS!!! The letter, as always, is inspiring. And I'm listening to the CDs right now, and they are the coolest thing he could have done for those who wrote him.

And that confetti shit is everywhere... It's great!

Yeah, I'd like to know that too. But not just for this window, for all the windows.

Wow it is kind of hard because I got a lot of cool stuff but looking at what others got I am envious... I sent my letter OCt. 2 and got my box a LONG time ago, before Christmas, basically back when this post was started (though I didnt post then) and I wonder the sequence was for what he mailed out... it seems people in the first run of returns received the handmade necklaces with their names spelled out (i did), and then shortly thereafter people received the fold-out combs, then harmonicas, now the photo albums... I wonder if he just had piles of all of this stuff in front of him or if he exhausted one pile and then moved to the next... A photo album wouldvt been cool... But my necklace is pretty sweet.

I think my favorite part of his reply letter is right in the beginning. In my letter I had said that I really wanted to write to him but had no urgent, fanboy question, so he could write about something mundane that no one else had asked him like what he had for breakfast, and he opened his letter "I ate leftover pear cake for brekfast. My partner isa baker so I'm always eating baked stuff - breads, cakes, pies." Now, that is a man after my own heart. Pastries are by far the best possible breakfast. And I am pretty sure someone told me they are the most nutritional, as well. (They probably have less sugar than some kids' cereals anyway).

I also told him about a Buddhist parable that I like, and he said he liked it and phhilosophized about life and how lucky we are to be alive for a while.

He also said that it is important to be willing to do things that might make you look rash, stupid or clumsy, because only one some people make themselves look stupid are others less afraid to do the same, and to share (and discover and admit) inner parts about themselevs that are bottled up and hidden somewhere.

Oh, also, in terms of the mundane, that he had a kidney stone, but it was OK becasue it offered him the chance to sit in the ER and watch people and write.

Finally, I had told him I was vegan, and he sent chocolate anyway, which I thought was kind of weird (as I went thought the box before reading the letter, which I was saving for last) and the last line of his letter was, "Please say hello to your partner for me. Give him the chocolate. And let the rocks bring you good luck and inspiration in graduate school."
