More constructively...Levi, do you remember where that thread is (or what it's called) where we helped group Chuck's books by genres? That might help the thread starter direct his reading.
There are two books that may help you. You Do Not Talk About Fight Club and Sacred and Imorale... Mirka or someone could tell you more about these.

haha, no sorry, I don't remember. I guess I wasn't being that constructive.... but there are literally hundreds of threads to read here about shit like this under author probably.

I second this.
Meh. Nihilism doesn't appear in any of his works. Some people just choose to identify certain aspects of some of his characters as "nihilistic".
This is why we can't have nice things.
Well i did have nihilism in mind but then again i would have to agree with tuffy. I guess i have to do some research about Chuck.. =\
thanks for the comments
you do know there is an entire section of the site dedicated to this, under features.
here's a quick link: http://chuckpalahniuk.net/features/fan-papers

And more than nihilism I'd say hedonism is a prevelant theme in his work. Hedonism and sexual deviance.
(now, can anyone tell me what happened to my browser spellcheck? Its gone and I really am not very good at spelling...)

Des - I love that you quoted me in your sig. I think that's the first time someone has done that. Thanks!
I think it would be a good paper to compare Fight Club to The Great Gatsby. Chuck has even gone on to say that format wise - they are really similar and he used Gatsby for inspiration. (Or something along those lines)
Make some research!

haha i never get tired of that expression

I've written a few papers on Fight Club, though it was a couple years ago. My two favorites were on Marla's character embodying the 5 archetypes women have historically been compared to (Womens Studies class) and a paper defending Fight Club as an epic poem mostly using The Epic of Gilgamesh for comparison.
why'd you never put them in the fan-papers section ?
or did i miss them, somehow..

I think at the time I was a little too intimidated of this place to put it up. Then there was/is the possibility of me expanding on them or on chuck's work in general in grad school, so I don't know if putting them on a public forum would matter if I tried to get them published in a few years. I really liked the epic paper, though. I wouldn't mind emailing them to interested culties as soon as I get my pc running again.
throw one my way whenever, timb

After countless hours of thinking and research, i realized that Fight Club and Invisible Monster are written in medias res, which is basically beginning a story with its ending or the mid-point. For ex. Fight Club starts off with the narrator on the rooftop with Tyler and from there the narrator tells the story. In Invisible Monsters, same thing with Brandy dying from a shot and from there the story is told. I also found that most of his books are written with this style. So I'm basically writing how Chuck uses the style of "in medias res" to tell his story, effectively..or something like that but in better wording lol.
I'm willing to accept any other ideas, but for now I'm sticking to this one.
thank you all for your ideas/comments.
survivor too. beginning at the end. and counting backwards.

ahh! Good choice. That's also a style used in epic poems (Gilgamesh, the Odyssey). My professor wasn't too keen on the idea of me trying to prove Fight Club as an epic poem, but there are so many similar parallels (in medias res, hero's journey, foreshadowing, etc) that it's hard to deny there are a lot of "epic" factors in Fight Club.
I'm glad to contribute to you cyber immortality.
