Anti-Chuck Backlash?
YOU AREN' T IMAGINING THINGS!!! How could there not be a backlash over a popular writer that only writes DOO DOO jokes. Someone recommended CHOKE to me. It took forever, but after forcing myself through 200 + pages, I HAD TO PUT IT DOWN. It is TERRIBLE!! Seems like it was written by the guys from those JACKASS movies. I guess the whole point of chuck's writing is to gross out the reader...but it's not gross!!! It's just BORING!!! If I had to guess, it would say the book was written by 14-year old homo that hates the world, but LOVES having his butt buddies shit on his face. But i guess STEROIDS are a nasty drug!! Hell, by now, chuck's BRAIN & balls are probably the size of tiny peas. I wonder who he screwed to get his CONTRACT? READ ARTHUR C CLARKE !!!!!! enlighten yourself!!! Chuck P couldn't wipe Arthur C Clarke's ASS!!!
Arthur C Clarke couldn't wipe Dostoevsky's asshole!
Mostly because he lives in India and also because Fyodor is long dead and his asshole has rotted away.

I think I'm going to shock the cult (and possibly stop any trolling) by saying your not wrong. Chuck is my favorite writer, and has been an extreamly important influence on my screenwriting, but he certainly is not for everyone. He takes PRIDE in the transgressiveness of his work. many people, like CPisamental (I assume), HATE transgressive fiction. theres nothing wrong with this. some people hate musicals, some people hate comming of age books, some people hate pop art. I personaly hate jam bands. does this mean that musicals, coming of age fiction, pop art or jam music are not legitimate forms of art? of course not. does it mean that the people that do not like them are ignorant or misinformed? NO! but its only natural that people that dont like transgressive fiction would pick on Chuck since he is the most visible and iconic member to go under this heading. I tend to say worse things about the Greatfull Dead than i do about other jam bands that i find even more annoying. i shouldnt, but its human nature to do so (this is why there are many, many anti-McDonnalds books and films and no anti-Burger King books or films).
also, I think that theres resistance to the notion of Chuck being THE transgressive artist of our generation. Chuck himself acknowledges the influence of writers like Ellison and Hempell, but fans, many of whom (myself included) were reintroduced to reading after picking up one of Chuck's novels, tend not to. so I think much of the anti-Chuck sentiment has more to do with the people that read his books than the books themselves. because Chucks fans tend to be young and just recently reintroduced to reading, we as a demographic tend to know less about other books, especialy the classics, than other readers. its the same reason a lot of exploitation fans have mixed feelings at best about Grindhouse, because while its clear that Rodrigues and Tarentino know a lot about and have a deep love for exploitation cinema, its even more clear that the average college kid watching it in theaters has no experience with the genre and could not tell you who Roger Corman, Russ Meyer, Hershel Gordon Lewis, William Castle, or David F. Friedman are, not could they tell you what the title Grindhouse refers to (Grindhouse refers to the theatrical practice of showing the films without breaking in between, which tended to grind down the equipment. it does NOT refer to the content of the films). Its not that we hate Grindhose per se, I LOVED Grindhouse, but I got turned off by all the people who pretended to be experts after seeing the film, untill i realized how snobbish this all was a week later.
also, I do tend to think that Chuck's style is pretty similar from book to book, especialy in the early days. then again, thats probably one of the reasons that he's been so successfull, because he's created a brand name for himself. I dont necessarily think this is a bad thing though. the films of Hitchcock tended not to stray to far in terms of style (with the exception of Rope and Psycho) or theme, and many of his plots are almost identical (The 39 Steps, Sabouteur, and North by Northwest are practicaly remakes, and The Man Who Knew Too Much WAS a remake of his own film) but they are nevertheless as a whole supurb.
This again!

O good lord, different strokes for different folks. The essence is that some people don't like Chuck. Chuck lovers, calm yourself.
And as for Douchey Mc. Capitalize Everything, get off the Chuck Palahniuk forums if you loathe him so entirely. I don't go on Martha Stewart's board to flame because I hate her casserole recipe. Breathe in. Breathe out.

i would be like to dress up like a bride for chuck but i would like a prize too for dressing up like a bride. Doesnt he give away sunflower seeds or plants or trees? Sometimes he gives away necklaces stuffed pets and beads from what i understand.
