Anti-Chuck Backlash?
Is there an Anti-Chuck backlash going on? i say this cause of the bashing ive been reading all over myspace and amazon. it seems nasty and unfair. am i just imagining an anti-Chuck backlash?
Ive been a Chuck fan for years ("choke" and "fight club" are my favorites) but im a newbie member so please be gentle
Well I think Fugitive and Refugee's was a little out of his control, it was a travel book for Portland. Stranger than Fiction was a great book, I would not consider it lazy. Haunted was another solid novel and that was a best-seller. Obviously there are going to be hard critics out there. No matter how wonderful your books are, people will always find a way to bring you down. Just like Rant Casey used to say folks build a reputation by attacking you when your alive...and praising you when you ain't.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
nothing out of the expected, at least to me. Chuck is more popular with each new release. with Rant, his popularity just exploded a bit more. and that means more critical views. more people around to both praise and talk smack. that's pretty much it.

i burn out on writers, i always have, i do it with music too, and other artistic shit! some stuff i love forever, others have a place and time. 4 years ago chuck was my favorite guy along with irvine welsh, still like welsh though. Paris Hilton rented space in my heart for a bit too, what can i say.
Does it really matter whether people praise or condemn Chuck's books?

all i know is that my bf ricky went to his book reading all dressed up in a wedding dress. then ricki said to me "why doesnt chuck dress up in a wedding dress to? i did". ricky makes a good point i think.

GROOM: Good point, I think.

I think the majority of the anti-Palahniuk crap online is just Dr. Suglia writing under various aliases. He's a busy bee!
Get on over to my website, young'un! www.subvertfromwithinrecords.blogspot.com
Yes, but he should be working on becoming interesting.

so is chuck the groom and chucks fans are the brides?
why shouldnt chuck dress like the bride? is he the groom or are we the brides?

It's because Chuck become so popular now that it's cool to hate him. Pretty much like anything else. I'm predicting that if the Choke movie comes out and is half-way good then the circle will move on and it'll be people saying how they "were into Chuck before all the movies!" like that makes them more of a fan.

the "Good point. I think." was what sealed the deal.

It's like Jesus Christ and his church being the bride.
although morey said it's some kind of in-joke amongst the gays.
I made that UP!!
that's sucks!
i was kind of hoping there really was some kind of in-joke.
My personal opinion is that i can see it from both sides of the coin. Chuck ***should*** dress up like a bride if his fans dress up like brides just to show the Chuckophiles and the Chuckites how cool Chuck is. But maybe he shouldnt dress up like a bride too, because if I were a famous writer, I definately wouldnt want the spotlight to be on ***that***. So i can kinda see it from both sides of the coin.

If i remember right from the pictures of the first couple of signings he was dressing up in a tuxedo with the yellow sneakers
probably just got tired of wearing it all the time though
okay, so he must have been playing the groom. the tuxedo meant that he was a groom not a bride. does that mean that his fans are like... his wifes? like the mormons who practize poligamy?
i think it's just a gimmick to sell more books and have a little more fun at the readings
. .
im a fan, hands down. im looking forward to one of these days going to one of his readings, maybe more than one. but i will not be "dressing" the part. like i dont go to see star wars dressed up as a jedi or to a trekky convention dressed up as a klingon : shudders :

and his fans as the brides/girls therefore he would be the dominant and the fans submissive, which is pretty much the deal eh?
i want to marry chuck with my bridal gown on

if I've learned one thing from sit-coms it's that the woman is the dominant one that gets things done and it's the husband that's the doofus with no clue
he was wearing these cool yellow shoes, pumas maybe last night - i noticed because this girl kim next to me had on yellow chuck taylor's i think, and they matched her canary yellow bag, and i made a comment, and she was like "oh, didn't do that on purpose" but it was an interesting detail
for real yeah but gays don't know that.
and that right there is why gays shouldn't be allowed to marry
Maybe when we wear our gowns we are marrying chuck at the book reading.
I can understand a certain backlash against CP. He seems to be getting more popular with each passing day, and for some folks, that's reason enough right there to start hatin'. His work does seem to cover the same ground much of the time, and that might be another reason for criticism. I'm sure Stephen King, Tom Clancy, etc. all went through this as well...
It's a big world out there, and it's a better place now that CP is getting his voice heard. He's certainly an acquired taste though, so we shouldn't be too surprised to hear that some folks aren't fans, right?
You should dress up as a Klingon Jedi and annoy fans of both franchises.
Am I the only person who realises an anti-chuck backlash is a backlash against those who dislike Chuck?!
I see him making people dress up as brides as an experiment to see if he can make people dress up as brides, I mean you'd have to be an idiot to dress up as a bride! Though most people will do it just for the prize.
"I have long felt that any reviewer who expresses rage and loathing for a novel is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae or a banana split."

Lies!
all i know is that my bf ricki said that only boys wear the wedding gowns. but that the girls dont wear wedding gowns? why dont girls *(((and)))**** boys wear the wedding gowns?
i am 95% sure that isn't true. Both the girls AND the boys dress up in gowns at chuck's readings i'm sure. Do you have any proof that only the boys wear wedding gowns.

This is different in that we weren't randomly dressed as Tyler or Marla, or Robert Langdon. He announced a contest, and we took part. T'was fun! FUN!

Both the boys and girls have turned up to readings in gowns. Welcome to the cult, by the way. Try and avoid the whole 'txt sp33k' phenomenon here.
I must admit, ronny james dio, maybe in fact ONLY boys dress up in wedding gowns. Looking at the pictures it seems that ONLY boys are in wedding dresses. So what? what is your point exactly, ronny james dio?

Im just sayin that if chuck wants me to dress up in a wedding dress ill do it in a ny minute. They say that chuck is the best writer there is. Id even have a honeymoon with chuck.

At the readings? No. We had about 10 girls and only one guy in bridal attire. Too bad - I was hoping to see more gutsy guys! In a city like Toronto, we're so open and accepting that people probably wouldn't have given the guys a second look on the street.
And for the record, it was FUN! I didn't feel like we just "did it 'cos he said so". It's like going to a costume party. You're all laughing at the same joke. It was meant to be goofy. One girl dressed like a dead bride. Her makeup was great. It was just...fun. Not mind-control or manipulation. FUN!!!
Plus...he rewards those who play along with him. I can't wait to see what those of us who dressed up get in the mail from his publishers. He gave us these little fancy pieces of paper that looked like tiny wedding invitations, addressed to "another beautiful bride", and gave us strict instructions to send them ASAP to New York. So...that oughta be interesting.

well, no one liked haunted. stranger than fiction and fugitives seemed lazy to a lot of folks (im not saying they did to me) but they made it seem like he was .. and i personally thought diary sucked

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain.
