My Five Best Indie Songs

After a good, long run, we have decided to close our forums in an effort to refocus attention to other sections of the site. Fortunately for you all, we're living in a time where discussion of a favorite topic now has a lot of homes. So we encourage you all to bring your ravenous love for discussion to Chuck's official Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram. And, as always, you can still post comments on all News updates. Thank you for your loyalty and passion over the years. These changes will happen June 1.

I'm not here to defend indie music. Or wait, maybe I am. I was born in the 80's, I'm white, I'm from the Midwest. I am the target audience for music written by white men with bourgeois problems and confessional lyrics. That being said, here are what I consider the five best indie songs of the last 15 years, in no particular order:

1. "Holland, 1945" by Neutral Milk Hotel

2. "Art is Hard" by Cursive

3. "Trees Get Wheeled Away" by Bright Eyes

4. "Waltz #2" by Elliott Smith

5. "This Year" by the Mountain Goats

Agree with me? Disagree? Want to make your own list? Yay!!
