Born Polluted

After a good, long run, we have decided to close our forums in an effort to refocus attention to other sections of the site. Fortunately for you all, we're living in a time where discussion of a favorite topic now has a lot of homes. So we encourage you all to bring your ravenous love for discussion to Chuck's official Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram. And, as always, you can still post comments on all News updates. President Obama's Blue Ribbon Cancer Panel has recently released a 200 page report about the chemicals that Americans are subjected to. It is quite disturbing.

In particular, the report warns about exposures to chemicals during pregnancy, when risk of damage seems to be greatest. Noting that 300 contaminants have been detected in umbilical cord blood of newborn babies, the study warns that: “to a disturbing extent, babies are born ‘pre-polluted.’ ”

“Only a few hundred of the more than 80,000 chemicals in use in the United States have been tested for safety,” the report says. It adds: “Many known or suspected carcinogens are completely unregulated.”

What do you guys think? Maybe we should test chemicals before we produce them, seems like common sense right? (here is the link to the article and the Panel's site) http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/06/opinion/06kristof.html?scp=1&sq=new%20... http://deainfo.nci.nih.gov/advisory/pcp/pcp.htm
