Contradictory aspects of Fight Club.

After watching Fight club a dozen times, the last two years, my mind got filled with questions, I found most answers—yet, a couple questions remain.

Tyler has an anarchistic anti-consumerism ideology.
When the narrator is sleeping Tyler walks in and explains the narrator how he sees the world.
He says "You'll wear leather clothes that will last the rest of your life", while in the movie, he wears dozen of different clothing, from two leather jackets to multiple shirts and even a suit.

While Tyler thinks consumerism is pathetic he wears jewelry and shades that serve no purpose.
He smokes, styles his hair and works three jobs (soap business, projectionist and waiter.)

Is there more behind this—did I miss something?
