Fan Artwork: Fight Club, Snuff & Pygmy Dust Jackets

Over the years we've received some great Chuck Palahniuk inspired artwork from fans. Banners, portraits, and of course book covers.  But it's the fans that go the extra mile and actually design the entire dust jacket of their favorite Palahniuk book, that light me up.  Here are three by Ben Perry, as well as an explanation from the designer below.

'Snuff' Is On Trial In Turkey

'Snuff' Is On Trial In Turkey

In the past two days our Twitter feed (@chuckpalahniuk) has exploded with a breaking story coming out of Turkey.  It seems The Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the book Snuff and is calling for all copies to be confiscated.  Here's more:

The Istanbul Press Prosecution sent a notice which includes a report from the Council for Protecting Minors from Explicit Publications to Ayrıntı Publishing. In the notice, the novel is accused of “abusing sexual instincts” and “incompliance with moral norms.”

Ayrıntı Publishing, the publishers behind the Turkish translation of Snuff, are defending the book in their testimony.  Editor Abdullah Yılmaz though, thinks there is a bigger issue at the heart of this matter:

“Sexuality is a matter that is related to any kind of social structures, including culture and religion,” said Yılmaz, adding that even violence against women occurred because of sexual problems.

Italian Book Covers: Tell-All, Pygmy, Snuff, Stranger Than Fiction, Fugitives & Refugees, Diary, Choke, I. Monsters & Survivor

Tell-All Italy Pygmy Italy Snuff ItalyStranger Than Fiction Italy Fugitives & Refugees Italy Diary ItalyChoke Italy Invisible Monsters Italy Survivor Italy

Continuing our trend from last week of showcasing some of the coolest international Chuck Palahniuk covers, let's take a look at some of the recent selections from Italy.  In my opinion, Italy has long had some of the more stylish and unique covers for Chuck's books.  Unlike a lot of other countries who just use a slight variation of the U.S. cover, Italy's usually stand out on their own.  I'll even forgive them for mucking up my dedication in Lullaby, seen here as 'Tennis Widmyer.'  Sighs.

Props to Michele Ponte for sending us some of these.

See more in our Book Covers Gallery.

'Snuff' Gets A Movie Option!

'Snuff' gets optioned by Fabien Martorell

In the last three years we've seen first Haunted then Rant and then Invisible Monsters all have their movie rights optioned.  To date there doesn't seem to be any substantial progress on any of those projects.  So I tend to not get my hopes up too much whenever another book advances to this first stage towards becoming a motion picture.  Still, the tiny fanboy in me always gets a little excited by the prospect of seeing another one of Chuck's books up on the big screen.  So I will always diligently champion and help foster buzz on these projects as they start this near-impossible task of getting a production greenlight.

This time the movie being developed is for Snuff, Chuck Palahniuk's 2008 novel about porn star Cassie Wright and the largest attempted gang-bang ever to be recorded on screen.  The rights have been optioned by French filmmaker Fabien Martorell.  Fabien is an award winning director who recently moved to Los Angeles.  He directed the feature-length documentary TROMATIZED, MEET LLOYD KAUFMAN and has two other feature scripts in development.  read more »

As you can see, I'm making up for a lot of backlogged News updates today. Hopefully you're getting a thrill out of this much news in one day.

This one's a specialty though. Warren Etheridge, of The Warren Report, had the pleasure of interviewing Chuck, as he came through Seattle this year promoting 'Snuff'.
