So, what time should I arrive there, if the event starts at 5? I want to be there for the signing, as well. I'm about 3 or 4 hours away from D. C., and this will have been the first Chuck interview/signing/Q&A event that I've ever been to.
If anyone could give me details, I'd appreciate being filled in about it all. Thanks!
I'm going too. I'm just trying to figure out how soon I need to go down. I spoke to someone at B&N and they said this is all they could say:
-store opens at 9am
-the signing/reading/interview is in the upstairs room of B&N
-seating is first come first serve
This is where it gets interesting. The worker at B&N said he heard that Chuck may be personally signing 150 books, Chuck may not be signing any books, or that Chuck will sign as many as three books for everyone.
He said the store has been getting conflicting stories about what is going to really happen.
I too am coming from a distance (about 4 hours) and I think I may be getting there for about 12 or 1. I hope that it doesn't get out of hand early, I'll be way mad if I drive this far to not get in.
Can I get some advice from anyone that's been to a signing? Should I get there as soon as humanly possible or will I be OK if I get there when I get there? Amy help is appreciated.
Cheers,
J
Im going to get to DC early as Hell and find out what is going on...then I will eat or something if they tell me to get lost.
I've heard and seen first hand that B&N's signings are disorganized. No one has accurate information, no one knows when the person will actually show up, no one knows how many books they will sign or for how long. The only thing they have down is they give you a bracelet "to get an autograph" when you walk into the B&N, unfortunately the bracelet guarantees you nothing.
The only thing I can say since both commentors are traveling a distance is this: don't get your hopes up. I live in the DC metro area and have seen plenty of people get shut out at signings. If you are really interested in attending this and you really, really, REALLY need to have Chuck sign a book be there by 7am, when the doors open at 9am get a bracelet and then proceed directly to the line where he will be signing books and hang out. The line to the signer is what really matters.
Good luck!
I haven't been to a Chuck reading since Olsson's handle the event at the National Press Club (Diary). I will say get there early... I have no idea how Border's will handle this...
I got the same conflicting information its completely a mess! oh well Im getting there wicked early.
See you guys there! Look for the esteemed most venerated representative of Saudi Arabia.
I basically decided to wait another year. I probably would have gone, but the transportation was too conflicting.
Anyways, hope it's a blast and not too confusing for you all!
It was awesome
D.C. event was great!
What a awesome time chuck was even more hilarious then i had imagined. It did suck that you could only get presigned copies personalized even though so many people cheated and brought old copies of their books for him to sign. That kind of pissed me of because i followed the rules and my Invisible Mosters remains unsigned!Oh well i got a penguin! That story about is friend who worked at the airport was hilarious!
So, now that you have a signed book and a penguin, you can go back to creeping myspace!
Bai!!!
Wow what a great time! Chuck's such an awesome and selfless guy, telling stories, posing for pictures, and signing practically anything that was brought to him. Kudos to Borders as well for holding the event and keeping it together.
As for us, we got there a bit early (like 8am), but went and caught a movie and ate lunch before the first signing.
Definitely a great time.
I think the only bad part was the NPR lady's questions, any else agree?
I thought the questions were kinda insightful but i see what your saying.
I got a DVD
then felt guilty for watching it
We had an excellent time. 4 signed books, 2 penguins and a half-dozen great stories by Chuck and our day was complete. 5 ½ hour drive from NC, arrived at 2pm to get the last two purple wrist bands for the early signing.
NPR lady Andrea, please ask more insightful questions next time. Only on our way home did we come up with some great questions for Chuck (Spirit of the Stairs). We will keep them for next time.
Borders Books…good job! Smooth run of events.
As my fellow Arab said, “What are the chances?” He and I wore the same shirt and head-gear. I saw two geisha (one came with me!!), Monsignor Baguette, boy of cow and only a handful of others dressed as loons. We received a Model United Nations certificate for dressing up. Once we send it in, we will receive a special token of appreciation.
I will drive 5 ½ hours to see Chuck anytime. He was a very patient and appreciative man. He has a great sense of humor and seems very approachable.
Sean your outfit was awesome! I was standing next to you guys with my girlfriend while in line for the signing.
Glad to see you had a safe trip home.
If you have not done so already, pick up the May issue of Playboy. Once you get past all the boobs, there is a great interview with Chuck. He has more amazing stories.
I will have my photos of the DC signing coming soon.
I've been reading Chuck since he came out. This was my first signing. He his freaking hilarious! And he let me crack a joke while I asked him questions.
Sean:I drove about an hour, but you deserve kudos for driving so far AND dressing up! Your costumes were AWESOME!
One of the best days of my life..............
