Does anyone have any idea how early I should arrive at the Library for the chance at a personalized copy? The library told me that the line will begin to form at 5. We all know this will not be the case and it will be much earlier im sure. This will be my first reading and I am very excited to see if I can get a copy personalized.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would get there early.

Chuck is arriving an hour and half before the start time to start signing books, so if the reading is at 7:30, he should be there at 6:00 PM.

I don't want to piss off the library by disagreeing...maybe they don't want a line before 5:00 PM because it may disrupt the regular library patrons.

My suggestion would be get there early and read in the library, when you see a line forming, jump into it.

i'm confused.
is it $35 to go, or just for the hard copy and drinks and such?

Yes, you are a bit confused. This is the Philly reading, the only ticketed reading is in NY: http://chuckpalahniuk.net/calendar/event/tour/chuck-reading-in-nyc

i went to his rant tour in philly- show up EARLY. otherwise you won't be able to get in the main auditorium. also just bring a book- don't bother buying it there cause it will cost a ton and you'll waste time paying for it and end up in the other rooms where it's just a monitor.

these are obviously the mistakes that I made last time. I got there early, was up ahead in the line, then lost my spot in the main room cause i was buying a copy of rant for my sister. whoops.

depends on what you're looking for- if you want to get in the room where he's actually speaking, show up a couple hours ahead of time (I'd say three, four at most). But if you just want to get a book signed and don't mind sitting in a room with just a monitor, just show up when doors open.

not sure if i'm going this year, cause i wasn't a huge snuff fan, but maybe he'll bring something new to the table with pygmy. i saw him on his rant tour and that was fun.

Does anyone know about handicap facilities. I am permanently disabled by fracturing the L4 and L5 in my back. As a result, I had a spinal fusion in 2006. I am unable to stand for long periods of time. However, I have so old 1/1's I want to try to get him to sign. I have no problem arriving at the Library as early as everyone else who is planning to have items signed, but am I able to bring a chair to sit it, or does the Library provide any service? Also, are there any facilities for the reading

I don't represent Chuck and can't say that he definitely will...but I think your chances are good if you have ONE book you'd like him to sign.

On the Rant tour, there was no limit stated, and people abused it. He's not the type of guy who'd say no if you had something in front of him, and thus his kindness should be taken into account before taking advantage. This one girl in Boston was practically pushing a library cart up to the signing table. Well, not really, but you get the idea. Nine books, I think, all his books published at the time.

I think last tour, Snuff, they had a 'within the last three books published' rule or something.

Just consider that the man is writing his name THOUSANDS of times that week, so be conservative.

The "Fist Chuck Event" was a promo for the Snuff tour. For the Pygmy tour he's just gonna let people do karate on him. Sorry

Okay, I'm a bit confused. If you are one of the first 150 people, whom will get their book or books signed, do you have to sit in a room with a monitor to watch him talk? Or if you get to the auditorium, can you not have a book signed?

i hope that's not the case!!! i want to get my books signed AND be in the auditorium for the reading!

I think the first 150 people in line will get tickets to get an autograph. As for the auditorium, I think once that's full, whoever is left goes into the overflow room w/ the video. So if you have a ticket but the auditorium is full, then you'd be in the other room.

I went to a Bruce Campbell Q&A at the Free Library and they didn't do tickets but the auditorium was def first come, first served.

I hope I'm one of the first 150. I'm aiming to get there around 3pm. Hopefully they'll have a line going so there's not a mad dash at 5pm for the ticket line

Hey everyone. I'm heading to the Free Lib soon... just wanted to say that a bunch of us are heading out for drinks afterwards. If anyone is familiar with CouchSurfing, a few of us will be in attendance. If anyone wants to meet some cool, like-minded people (20 somethings mostly), feel free to call or text me @ 856 993 1106. The long line might be lonely, and it looks like a lot of us will be waiting for several hours... so don't be shy!

Im going to the d.c. signing but i was wondering when someone gets back from the Philly one if they can explain the signing situation to me. Someone told me you can only get a presigned book personalized and i was planing on bringing fight club and invisible monsters so will he not sign those because its not presigned? Someone who goes tonight please help me out.

It may be different in DC. You could always call the place and ask them.

In Philly, we were able to have 2 copies of Pygmy and 2 back titles personalized.

#47 says: It was great Smile I like the 'bedtime stories' and yay penguins (I didn't get one tho Sad ) The library staff were friendly and did a great job. They had to split up the signing cuz it actually cut into the Q&A.

I just got back. It was a blast. I took two of my friends one who was fimiliar with his work the other was not. We all had a great time though And WE ALL GOT PENGUINS! We showed up around 5 i think but we were two late for the book signing,. first I was pissed because I really wanted to get my books signed but it worked out better because we were first in line for the interview and we had great seats. 4th row. We had to wait outside for a log time but it was it was fun. I have a lot of pictures. I will upload some if anyone wants me too.

I loved it last night! The paperclip, the bedtime stories, even the penguins. (I feel like I'm the only one who didn't get one?!) And OF COURSE, the German situation...

Maya Angelou 'sexting' him in the middle of the event!

I was afraid to catch a penguin for fear of feeling obligated to blow it up. I didn't trust anyone around me to do CPR.

The event was great! I think the Three Bears was my favorite. Little bummed with the signing. 66th in line, had to stay after, and by the time I got to him, it was 11:00pm and he wasn't posing for pictures or even talking much. He looked pretty burnt out. Still, a great first reading for me. He looked so happy, like a little kid, throwing out those penguins. Also, loved the "Survivor" question from the audience. Gave good insight into why he does what he does.

The event was awesome!!! some girl actually wanted to fight me for my penguin lol...I was number 140 for the signing and since it ran so late, I got to see him just after he took that quick break around 11 and then found myself stranded in Philly because the parking garage that I parked my car in closed and I had to go all the way back to get it today....it was soo worth it though, but he seemed so tired when I met him but I love him and my penguin so much!

I was lucky enough to be #116 in the signing line. Because our line was cut off, I got to move into the theater to get a seat for the show and security allowed me to park directly behind the library so that my car wasn't locked in the lot after 8pm. By the time the show ended, we got back in line and I got to see him by 11pm. Unfortunately, he wasn't posing with the trophy anymore so even tho that was sad, I am still glad that I got to go and meet him.

Next time, I am bringing a large jug of water and fruit though. That line waiting was like Nerd Olympics.

I have a giant set of photos from the event here- http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucindalunacy/sets/72157617820536811/

and I blogged about it here- http://lucindalunacy.livejournal.com/883615.html

Awesome, thanks! It's great to hear the German story that everyone has been mentioning.
