JUST GOT MY TICKET!! YAYAYYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYYA lol so syked. never seen him before
im confused about the getting the book personally signed thing. Is it the first 150 people there at Strand or the first 150 people to order tickets????
Sadly it's the first 150 to buy tickets. If you're one of the first 50 to show up in costume though, you'll get a prize, if that's any consolation.
Im so getting there at 3 and waiting for 3 and half more hours, just so I can be the first!
Damn it. I bought the book yesterday and will spending most of the night reading it!
Just got back from the event and had a great time. Met the man himself (a total gentleman) and kicked it with MDEVITO on the balcony (a gentleman as well). Bummer that Amy Hempel had to cancel due to family emergency, but Chuck's agent filled in ably. Really cool seeing Chuck in a theatre that was worthy of his Rock Star status. Can't wait to read Pygmy.
Edit: I said agent, I meant editor.
What a blast. Chuck remembered me from meeting him in 2005 and remembered a story I wrote. They made us get photographed with a trophy and a hat for the VIPs. He read excerpts from the book. Had a brief Q & A with his editor. Made us blow inflatable Penguins for Choke DVDs. Time went by pretty fast. Pygmy sounds like it's going to be great.
Edit:
I got videos from most of the event but my connection is slow to upload, i was going to post it in facebook, i am not sure if that can be seen here.
maybe it was cause i started drinking on the train ride in, but i was pretty lost during his fairy tale stories....chuck was amiable as ever and i'll have some pics to post as soon as i upload them....
all in all, i had a better time at all his other readings
"Hannah Montana.....I thought that was a city"
Oh man what a great night, the guy so fucking funny. I swear the paper clip was the best. The paper clip is such an English professor.
Oh, and who else was ready to flip shit during the endless montage for Pygmy? I was freaking out, that was probably the most annoying thing I've ever witnessed.
The video for Pygmy is good. I even liked the music. But after watching it 30-40 times on that loop, it was enough to make anyone postal.
Great event! Chuck never disappoints.
I yelled out "show us pictures!" when him and maya were sexting. Which I thought was a great joke to slide in (maya calling, not me yelling) which most people didnt get.
great time last night- had some good conversations with people- and mocked the 2 girls (Dana and I forgot the other girl's name) next to me for blowing up their penguins and having to walk home with them blown up- and I took that picture of Chuck talking to the Mexican dude!
I ended up getting there a bit earlier than most people (I greatly overestimated the line) and I got to be first in line for the VIPs and meet Chuck. I was a little nervous and unsure what to say or do up there so I dropped the ball on being numero uno... oh well. but I did get one of those certificates for coming in costume and I plan to send away for my free gift!
I did manage to ask Chuck if the rest of the Rant trilogy will ever become a reality and he said he'd like to do it someday but he didn't seem too sure about it.
The 3 fairy tales he told were pretty funny- Hopefully those get printed somewhere and soon.
I, too, was at the event in NYC. I flew from Texas to Ohio, picked up a friend there and drove to NYC just in time to make the event. We were not one of the VIP's. I was never aware of the dressing up situation otherwise I would've done it. I never read/heard anything about it. Chuck was, of course, awesome! I got a penguin! I was devastated that the Q&A was so short, but I understand. All in all, a great event, a good crowd. Fun!
And oh yeah, I enjoyed the "book trailer" but it was excessive on loop like that. I thought the art work was impressive and interesting to watch. And random people walking off the street grabbing tickets caused a little mayhem at the Strand merch table that I didn't think was very organized.
Last night was so much fun. first time seeing him or any other writer. I loved wen he was talking about the microsoft paperclip i thought that was funny and also maya angelou was hysterical too. Getting the penguin was really awsome. Even before it all started the trailer for the book was uhh interesting but funny.
"...if only he can control his ill-timed spontaneous erections."
hahaha. Looking forward to book 11 hopefully i can go to the tour for that too and maybe even meet him. I felt bad tho that Amy Hempel wasnt there but I did buy a book of hers today. Overall i had a really great time! Nice Job Chuck.
Ohh ya and the fairy tales were just as funny as "Maya Angelou" and the trailer...

Really, Really fun night! Cant wait to read PYGMY
to lilvenom
i really don't know how you got your poster in time but i thought that was cool to have it for him to sign. I was 4th on the VIP line.
I loved the fairy tales and the fact that I now have a penguin to go with my blowup doll. Took a while to start and there was a bright blue light on my face, but it was totally worth the ride down from MA and the wait. Hopefully I can do this every year.
was that you with the john waters doll?
sounds like a great time
