Go to Chapters, Metrotown on May 16th for a wristband. Doors open at 0930. You gotta buy the book to get the band.

I'll be there.

Anyone Else Showing up early on the 16th to get a Wristband?

Or does anyone know the general state of things in Burnaby, like, is it possible a line of 100+ people will show up to purchase books and wristbands before 8AM?

I'm getting there early but I don't wanna be there at 4 and be the only one in line... And by "in line" I mean "Standing in front of a bookstore alone".

You won't have to be there before 8am. Metrotown doesn't open its doors that early anyways. 90 min. should be more than enough to ensure you get a wristband. I'll be there at about 8:30am.

So no one is going super early, like I was thinking of being there at 5 o'clock, so you think that isn't neccesary?
Ps, are any of you guys dressing up?

5am? Hell no haha. They barely advertised this, it's not in the Georgia Straight, no mention elsewhere. The few people I've mentioned it to hadn't even heard. I'm going at about 8:30 - 9:00 or so. There probably won't even be 150 people there when the place opens as it is, the mall doesn't open its doors until just before the stores open, etc. etc.

I have my Wristband, My autographed copy of Pygmy, and a mission to meet Chuck and hopefully get him to personize my 1st edition Fight Club, and maybe Rant. I heard he would sign up to 3 books for each person.

Can't wait till the 21st now!

I live in Washington and that canadian Border can really be a pain sometimes.

Hey Gang,

Strange. I was a member here years ago under this username but it disappeared. It's been too long I guess.

I was lucky to get a wristband on the weekend. Should I show up at 7pm or earlier? I read somewhere people with wristbands should show up early.

I'll be taking some pics and report back to you all.

Those with wristbands are supposed to show up at around 5:30 or so, according to the folks at Chapters.
I guess Chuck is going to do the signings prior to the actual reading.

Great event, truly entertaining. This is my 4th time seeing Chuck. Great story teller and personality. Great crowd, cheers to the people who dressed up. The penguins are fab!

Cheers Tongue

I just got back from the reading a couple of hours ago! I had a great time! I posted a few pictures on Flicker... although we weren't supposed to take pictures during the reading so I only have a couple penguin pics.

This was my first time going to a reading and I had a blast I hope that Chuck will come to Vancouver again soon! I am looking forward to Tell All as I am a fan of The Children's Hour.

Thank you!!!

Amanda

Great event!

My fave comments were:

1) How he has been with the same core of people for years in his workshop every Thursday night.
2) He lives in the Northwest and doesn't want to move because of "Books". Moving books is a pain. Plus, his network there obviously.
3) Answered some good questions. He said his fave book was Gatsby and then went on to describe 20th century fiction (passive character vs rebel vs witness) with Gone with the Wind, Gatsby, and Cuckoo's Nest. Said that Fight Club was mixing those 3 characters into 1 and have the main character transcend as a witness.
4) We had a brief and good conversation. Thanks for the inspiring stones...

There are more but I have to run now. I took a picture without knowing there was a "no picture" rule so I will not post it because of his wishes.

Here is a link (pops) for the 3 bedtime stories he read on tour:

Have a great one all, see you in the workshop

Why was there a no picture rule? That must have been the bookstore's policy because there a ton of tour photos. Check them out here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/chuck-palahniuk-pygmy-tour/

I arrived in Chapters Bookstore about an hour beforehand waitng to catch a glimpse of Mr. Chuck Palahniuk. When he arrived it was like watching a musician warm up an instrument with the way he interacted with all the fans that arrived early, just to shake a hand and make a friend. I was in the third row so I was one of the first groups to get my Book Personalized. In addition to personalizing Pygmy, we were allowed two other books that would be autographed with his signature only. I brought my 1st edition copy of Fight Club and 1st ed. Rant because those are the two had meant the most to me of all his Novels. When my turn came i told him of my dedication to his work for the best part of a decade, He looked up at me and asked how old I was, i told him 24, and he half smiled. In that moment I realized that almost half my life had included the words and mantras of Chuck. He open Pygmy and wrote, "To Best Top Degenerate Citizen Thomas". He then took it upon himself to Personalize my copy of Fight Club, writing, "I am Thomas' Book". He autographed Rant and told me that the key to begin a good Career in writing is to find a way to perfect the short story. He told me you can build a short story into anything. I wish i could have taken a picture with him but an Inflated Penguin is memory enough to last a lifetime.

Thank you Chuck Palahniuk
Thomas
