Am I the only one going tonight? haha
I'll be there. Just got into town. If there's only 2 of us, you think they could re-think that "no signing" plan...?
How was it? I wanted to go but didn't get off work until 9.30
A great time was had by all. Would've been better if I had skipped Happy Hour, that way my reflexes woulda been more on point- and I would have grabbed the penguin instead of slapping it onto the back of the chick in front of me! Needless to say, someone else got it. Pissed be, operative Me!
Was I the only one slightly unimpressed by the interviewer's questions? He opened the night with, "If you could fight any author, who would it be?" I know not everyone has read Stranger Than Fiction, but all of his questions, and those of the audience too, could have been answered by reading it. Or this website.
Otherwise, the experience was amazing. It was my first time at a reading - though reading is not the right word because of the performance and comedy in it.
I arrived at 4:30 to learn that the library was kicking everyone out at 5:30, its closing time, and then they'd let everyone back in at 6:00. I was nearly the first to reenter, got a second row seat, an autographed copy, and a Penguin. (Yes, I was that guy.)
From reading the other cities' feedback, it seems like he did a lot of the same shtick, but he was sexted by Joyce Carol Oates in B-More, not Maya Angelou. I wonder who else he gets calls from for the rest of the tour.
I agree that the man conducting the interview did a poor job. I think it was clear that he did not have much knowledge of Chuck's work. Regardless, I think Chuck did a great job entertaining the audience that came to see him. He really knows how to tell a story. It seemed like everyone was on the edge of their seats throughout the whole presentation. He was very friendly with the audience. I was completely satisfied and would go see him again.
