The Thunder
It has been storming here all night and now into the day. A bad kind of storm. A Springtime April storm. Completely out of place at the end of July. The sky is a kind of grey that looks like a pencil has scribbled it out by an angry child's hand.
And the thunder!
Never have I heard something that so defines the word "ominous."
There is very little lightening anywhere but these large horrific thunderclaps are continually going off. Low constant rumbling.
I kept having dreams last night that there were atomic bombs going off all around the city. And, as per my usual dreams, I was the one left to lead everyone to safety.
I don't know what it is about thunder that just feeds my desire to write. I feel safe when I hear it. Like a heavy irregular heartbeat, holding me in it's womb.
Hopefully the electricity will last long enough for me to post this blog.
Nothing is ever the same after a storm blows through.
I wonder what will be different after this one.

"a pencil has scribbled it out by an angry childs hand"?? that doesnt make any sense.
and you had a dream that you lead everyone to safety after atomic bombs?? Is this piece a comedy?
it's not a story at all. It's about how hard it was raining this morning.
it seems to have petered out now though , and there's just that hollow wind pushing tree branches, at present.
Thers been thunder here nearly everyday for the last month - but no lightening- it sucks Thunders only really exciting cause you hope there'll be lightening with it.
What bothers me is, Lightning is supposed to be the cause of Thunder. What the hell is going on up there for all this Thunder to be happening and not ANY lightning to show for it?!
I could see if it was just one or two thunderclaps...maybe the sound of it has just traveled so far and is finally reaching me that I couldn't see, or wasn't looking in the direction of the lightning at the time it happened. But even then, you'd expect to see some sort of lightning, for one of the thunderclaps you're going to hear in the next ten minutes.
But these are large thunderclaps. Almost all-encompassing. Like you're standing in the middle and a single thunderclap is coming in on you from all sides. The Bose radio of thunderclaps!
They feel like it would take a bolt of Lightning that would split the sky, opening it up for Ragnarok to begin! and yet...nothing, no where.
I'm not a science guy, but even if it was just a small bolt of lightning, it doesn't seem like it would cause the air to rush back in on itself hard enough to cause that tremendous of a clap.
I enjoy thunder so loud it makes things fall of shelves. I like to lay in bed and pretend it's the Apocalypse.
The only thing I don't like about it, is if it knocks the power out. I can make do without the computer or TV or AC or anything really. But if my little fan I got by the bed goes out I'm fucked. Even just sitting here, if I don't have that for noise in the background, nothing I can do will be comfortable.
Even with the lights out, I can still light a candle and read a book. Just don't take away my fan, Thunder. Please!
I now love the word "thunderclap".
