Writers' Workshop Anthology: June Nominations & Finalists Announced
Greetings, everyone! As of yesterday, six more original short stories have been sent off to Chuck to be read, reviewed and feed-backed. This is an unprecedented opportunity for up and coming amateur writers. Not only do we offer a groundbreaking online Writers' Workshop for you to troubleshoot your material and get honest and helpful feedback from your peers... but we are currently selecting the best stories each month and sending them off to Chuck!
In 2009 our Writers' Workshop received a massive make-over. Chuck is now directly involved with his readers, helping them improve their writing craft. Each month, after a thorough screening process, we send Chuck 6 fan-written stories which he then reads, reviews, and provides vital feedback on. It is Chuck's goal to pick the best stories at the end of the year and include them in an Anthology, which he will not only include his name on and write the Introduction for, but also help attach a publisher to. (in fact, Chuck has hinted that he may already have one lined up!)
So saddle up, folks. It's time to get serious about your writing! read more »
Did Chuck Palahniuk's 'Guts' Inspire A Scene In The 'New Final Destination' Movie?
I'm not sure what took me so long to post something about this. People have been discussing it on our message board, and it's popping up all over our Twitter page. In the new 3D horror movie The Final Destination, there is a scene where one of the characters gets his ass stuck to a pool drain. Obviously, this is very reminiscent of the infamous story Chuck Palahniuk wrote for his 2005 short story novel Haunted, entitled Guts.
Now, I have not yet seen The Final Destination, but I seriously want to. I have friends who have checked it out that say it's goofy yes, but thoroughly entertaining and delivers on all its 3D gags. Yet, even though I haven't seen it, you may be surprised to hear that I actually worked on it in some capacity -- if you count doing a 4 month internship for the production company that produced it, manning the desk and screwing up phone banking, then yes... I guess I worked on it. Lol.
During that time, I read the script through a few drafts and incarnations. So unless they changed something last minute... I know how this scene turns out... and it might surprise you. But I won't say anymore, as I don't want to give any SPOILERS. read more »

Big Update From Chuck On Our Workshop Anthology!!!

As we approach the midway point of nominating stories from our Writers Workshop for possible inclusion to the Anthology, momentum and excitement builds. But along with this comes more questions from students. To date, we have plowed through 5 months of story selections to go before Chuck, which he then reads, reviews and provides incredibly helpful feedback on. Currently, we are screening stories from June, which will go before Chuck soon.
The mission here is for Chuck to get through a full year's worth of the best Workshop submissions and then choose the best ones for inclusion into an Anthology he will be helping to publish, hopefully for 2010.
Today, Chuck took some time out of his very busy schedule to answer some of the more pressing questions you have all had for him. He also lends some words of encouragement, with regards to marketing this book, what will sell best, and what sort of impact we can make for the future and going forward with more Anthologies from this site each year. All in all, this is very exciting stuff. Check out Chuck's letter beyond the break! read more »
Quentin Tarantino Puts 'Fight Club' In His Top 20 Favorites Films List
Quentino Tarantino, whose new film "Inglorious Basterds" hits theatres on August 21st, has just compiled a six minute video for Sky Films in which he lists his Favorite 20 Films of the past 17 years. Why 17 years? Because 1992 is when Tarantino began directing and these are the films he admires most since then.
'Fight Club' Screening At The Hollywood Outdoor Cinema

I tend not to post about 'Fight Club' movie screenings much anymore. They happen so frequently, in every state, that it just doesn't seem that important to stay on top of. But this screening in particular, is pretty cool. 'Fight Club' will be shown at the Hollywood Outdoor Cinema on August 21st, at 7:30pm. Here are some of the events that will go with it:
- Come in your PJs for Pillow Fight Club!
- The First Rule of Fight Club is XBOX Giveaway!
- Craft Night for Tough Guys!
- Movie Lovers Support Groups!
- Prizes!
- Mobile Restaurant Row!
- Fight Club Photo Booth
- DJ Mix by megamonomnke
So if you live anywhere in the Los Angeles area, or don't mind traveling, this sounds like it could be a pretty awesome night at the movies.

New Book! Sacred and Immoral: On the Writings of Chuck Palahniuk
Our old friend and longtime contributor to The Cult, Jeffrey Sartain, is dropping in with some very exciting news for you all. There's a new book! Well no... not by Chuck Palahniuk. Rather, it's a new book about Chuck Palahniuk. You see, Jeff is the undisputed king of all things related to the academia of Palahniuk. Therefore, I doubt you're ever going to find a more thorough examination of Chuck's works then Sacred & Immoral.
With that, I'll hand the mic over to Jeff.
Greetings Cultists!
I’m happy to announce the publication of Sacred and Immoral: On the Writings of Chuck Palahniuk. The book is an academic anthology, intended for scholars, students, and fans, and features eleven original essays about Chuck’s post-Fight Club novels, as well as an interview with Chuck, an up-to-date Chuck bibliography, and a unique foreword by Monica Drake. This book has been a labor of love, as I think anyone who reads it can tell. Each and every author represented here is a die-hard fan of Palahniuk’s work; our goal is to demonstrate the powerful meanings that readers are able to draw from Palahniuk’s literature, and to inspire further scholarship and conversation about his work. read more »

Yes, Clevenger returns to us all (thank God!) as the first visiting author for our new 'Authors in Residence' series. This is different from previous Master Intensive Workshops, as it is not lecture and homework based, but more of a classroom creative writing course... a two week 'Shotgun' Intensive to focus on the material that you, the student, are working on.
Important: Craig is not going into this with a pre-arranged agenda. Rather, he is going to accept two samples from all the students before the class actually begins. Samples should be 2,000 - 3,000 words long and should be emailed to Mirka@chuckpalahniuk.net only after you have registered for the class. Let me be clear: This sample you send will not be used as part of any of the lessons in the actual class. Rather, it is just a sample to let Craig see your range and style of writing.
To ensure personal attention and an intimate classroom style setting, both Shotgun Intensives will be limited to only 15 Students. But don't worry, there are two to choose from! And you know what else? Registration is now open!

Craig Clevenger Returns With Not One Shotgun, But Two..
The fireworks aren't over just yet! It's my pleasure to announce that Craig Clevenger's second short story (an excerpt from his forthcoming novel Saint Heretic) is now live.
Now watch those eyebrows and fingers, so you don't get hurt when you absorb this fireworks finale; Craig Clevenger will be returning to the site in a new capacity, as the first visiting author for our new 'Authors in Residence' series that we are unveiling this year.
